- on the precipice of death, the human body becomes the perfect receptacle for spirits to inhabit and reanimate. the corpse thus becomes remade into something anew.
- enter: aifu. a simple girl who once lived in the mountains, tending to her family crops. one day, ma yelled at her to gather some river stalks, and so she did. in a series of unfortunate events, she somehow stumbled (in a RIVER), hit her head on a rock, passed out, almost drowned as she was whisked away by the unforgiving river's current, and washed up on the side of the river bank.
- she thought everything was perfectly fine and dandy but.. when she got up, she was hit with a sudden bout of dizziness..?!?!?! suddenly, she heard a voice in her head?!?!?! "i am a river spirit. listen to what i say, and you will live." "No?" "wh—"
- anyways, her body now hosts two souls! yay! this is good, because nearly dying meant that her body would have hosted NO souls instead! the power of both souls is how she is able to continue living.
- but who is the second resident of her body..?
- xiaoyu. the spirit of a formidable fish yaoguai. WRONG! xiaoyu was born in a eutrophic zone of the river, which meant he suffocated within days of his birth. he was so enraged over getting spawnkilled that he became a lost spirit, forever burdened to haunt that river.. that is, until the body of a half-dead human washed up in HIS river!!! it was the perfect opportunity!!
- xiaoyu was also the only degraded soul that retained a semblance of self because he was so angered over his untimely death! this proved to be helpful when inhabiting the lost human's body, because he was able to easily overpower the other, aimless spirits. FUCK yeah! but now.. he has to share a body with an absentminded klutz of a girl..?! fuck!
xiuxin is xiaoyu's chosen name after the guy starts living for a while; aifu just ends up calling him xiaoyu due to having no other name to call him.
