“I woke up surrounded, eyes like frozen planets”

Inonder is a creature of little beauty, sporting rheumy eyes beneath a mess of dark, matted fur. Prideful, competitive, Inonder is a simplistic woman who thrives on her own instinct. An avid tracker. Relentless in achieving her goals, she is more than willing to flatten those who block her path.

Personality

Inonder is a quiet creature by nature, content to stalk the sidelines rather than making her presence known outright. Years of careful isolation have crafted her into a hardy individual, untroubled by the whims of the wild and callous to the happenings of the world beyond. Though apt to avoid social confrontation outside her familial circle, she will not flee should gregarious interaction find its way to her. Even in spite of her best efforts, Inonder’s social skills are…subpar at best. Though she grasps the concept of lying relatively well, doing so to spare the feelings of another falls beyond her scope of recognition. As a result she is often brusque in her manner of speaking, honest to the point of blatant disparagement.

An intelligent soul, she is nonetheless blinded by loyalty. No action is too cruel, no punishment too severe, so long as the one doling it out is one of her own. Likewise she is possessive of those she calls her own, dismissive of strangers and venomously crude to any who seek to undermine her relationships.

History

Born in the depths of the Sunless Jungle, Inonder’s mother was the first creature she ever saw. In spite of the old boar’s distant nature, the child trailed her wherever she traveled, eager to gain her favor. That distance behind her mother’s eyes never wavered, though, and Inonder spent most nights laying awake, attempting to picture just what her mama’s voice sounded like.

One particularly quiet morning, she made such a discovery on her own. Her mother’s screams, wretched and strangled, were silenced by forces unseen. As Inonder approached, she found the sight before her was so horrific, even now her mind will not allow her to recall it in detail. What she does recall clearly is the discovery of her dormant abilities. As she wailed, fat tears rolling down her cheeks, tree roots burst like projectiles from the ground, shielding her partially from some unforeseen danger. Terrified, confused and utterly exhausted, she then attempted to hide herself beneath the stilling form of her mother. From above, a soothing voice- a maternal voice, cooed and soothed her until sleep took her. When she woke, her mother’s body was gone. Laying in its place was a creature larger than any she had ever seen, curled protectively around her. In spite of the bitter, fearful scent which cloaked the beast, Inonder could not help but recall the fondness in its voice as she lay weeping. She had received no such affection from her mother, and some innate piece of her soul craved it. He did not rise as she wriggled her way beneath his chest, only leaning down to inspect her curiously. She trailed him persistently from then on, eager to be near him, and in turn he raised the girl as his own. As she grew older, she was not blind to the lives he stole- to the people he slaughtered for his own benefit. Although some part of her resented him for it, a larger part of her excused his actions. He who had raised her, sheltered her, fed her when no one else wanted her. Who was she to pass judgment upon him? He was her father. Her family.

As Inonder matured into an adult, her attachment to the man who had nurtured her did not waver. Although she often set off on her own for days (often, weeks) at a time, she never failed to return to him.

With focus and a clear mind, the roots of the forest answer Inonder’s call and come to her aid. They burst forth from the ground should she beckon them to do so, heeding her commands at the cost of her body’s water and glucose. Excessive use results in hypoglycemia and dehydration, leaving her vulnerable to attack. Following such overindulgence, she cannot call the forest to her side again until she has eaten and rehydrated.
