✾ Abilities

A’kumu is just like any regular ghost; they can possess objects, float, and everything other ghosts can do. However, whereas other ghosts can typically only appear in people’s dreams and show themselves to humans briefly, A’kumu can do something others cannot; They are able to show themselves for extended periods of time to humans or other creatures in the human realm and speak to them. Due to this, they have been nominated as a messenger between the spirit realm and the realm of humans.

However, A’kumu cannot permanently be visible to those in the human realm, as appearing to humans at all drains their energy. Finally, A’kumu can also choose who to specifically show up to; for example, they may be visible to a human but not their pet, or they may be visible to one person within a crowd but not to the others. Although they could easily use this ability to mess with people, they tend to avoid doing so.

✾ Introvert or Extrovert

Ambivert; A’kumu tends to avoid social interaction, but they can just as well enjoy it, especially when interacting with those who are alive.

✾ Alignment

A’kumu is a true neutral, as they don’t lean towards chaotic, lawful, good, or evil.

✾ Personality

A’kumu tends to be extremely neutral and serious. They are also rather insensitive to the emotions of others, although they do have empathy and emotions of their own, and will only comfort someone if it is absolutely necessary. Otherwise, they are very calm, or at least do their best to appear so.

✾ Backstory

One day, A’kumu woke up and they were dead. They didn’t know what had happened, nor did they remember anything from their past life. They were dead, and that was that.

In Kumu’s first 50 years or so as a ghost, they wandered around aimlessly, not quite knowing what to do with themselves. After all, they couldn’t interact with anyone aside from the occasional ghost or any other beings they happened to come upon in the spirit realm. However, in these 50 years, they also discovered something remarkable; they could communicate with the human world far better than any other ghosts could manage. Kumu was able to appear to humans and animals for extended periods of time and even speak to them.

Eventually, word of this got around and various beings from the spirit realm came to Kumu to communicate with their family members who were still alive. After some time of fulfilling the wishes of these beings, Kumu became well-known as a messenger between the living and the dead to the spirit realm and even some people in the human world. However, they tend to be very insensitive when they tell people that they are speaking for their dead relatives, and if someone else had the same ability as A’kumu, people would probably prefer this other being instead.

To this day, after several centuries, Kumu still acts as a messenger, although they have managed to avoid making any lasting relationships to people. They are a loner at heart, and most likely always will be.
