Castien Oakholm

Castien grew up part of Waterdeep’s noble Oakholm family — a house recognized by most of the city-goers for their community involvement and public contributions, as well as their high political standing within the city.  Their family crest had ever been a fearsome red dragon, but Castien had always assumed the stories of their ancestors actually being dragons was mere myth.  

Until, that is, Castien reached his 160th year and fell deathly ill.  He was ushered away to a private hospital where he was in and out of consciousness for several weeks.  He awoke one day with red scales sprouting from various parts of his body — his left hand was completely covered by them and his fingers now sported evil looking black claws.  His eyes, once a pleasant blue, had become amber-yellow and reptilian looking.

Unable to face his family, he bribed the medical practitioners to silence, and escaped, vowing to discover what power was causing him to take on such draconic traits.

He studied dragons and their many followers and cultists for several years to come, staying in Waterdeep but hidden from his family.  The draconic power within him brought a powerful magic, transforming him into a sorcerer.

Using these newfound powers, he went back to meet his family in secret after 10 years of absence, only to find his mother had remarried to an extremely abusive man when her original husband had fallen ill.  Catching him in the act of abusing his mother, Castien murdered his mother’s new husband in a fiery rage and was branded a monster by the city of Waterdeep.  

Since then he has wandered the Sword Coast in search of answers to his condition, and hopes to one day discover a cure.
