Story: Working on a tunnel maintenance shift in Clayward, Bronagh Brassknuckles sees some sort of mysterious black ichor leaking through the walls of some of the tunnels. She tries to bring this up to her higher ups and nothing is done of it. She fears a leak from a re-routed underground river, but eventually finds out that it’s a magical substance that is resistant to most magic, and reactive to others. This unexpected twist caused several tunnel cave-ins. She tries to force King Yasdril Leadbelly’s nobles to listen to her, but they refuse. She tried rallying up the commoners, but too many of them believed the nobles knew better. Sensing the emergency, Bronagh challenges the king to the throne, which was an absolute scandal. Already people were plotting against Bronagh. Since King Leadbelly is allowed to pick a champion to fight for him, he picks Rook, a troll who claims to come from nowhere and goes to nowhere. Rook battles Bronagh, but upon learning of Bronagh’s story, forfeits the fight. Which causes even further scandal. Bronagh is a bit torn because while she knows the system is rigged against her, she wanted to beat Rook in a fair fight, not to mention it immediately calls her legitimacy as King into question. The silver lining is now as King Bronagh Brassknuckles, she has access to the entire army and is allowed to pick her own council. And she uses all her resources to prevent the cave-ins from getting worse, and assisting the forest elves however they can.
