"Hello, I got lost but now I am here."

Palmer Chanse is a half-orc Pugilist and former ship's captain from Fallingtown currently living in the City of Doors. He hasn't sailed since a traumatic shipwreck nearly a decade ago. He currently works part time as a bodyguard in Matlock's pawnshop while also taking part in Emerson's rigged games.

Appearance

Palmer is a very tall and muscular half-orc. He has light blonde hair which he keeps very short. His skin tone is pale green with a touch of gray, owing to his orcish parentage. He has a fairly pronounced underbite, with his lower teeth overlapping his upper ones. This generally does not affect him, but it does cause him to slur some of his speech. He has bandages wrapped around his hands, aiding in combat, while also calling back to his days as a sailor. While manning the helm, Palmer wears a white captains hat with a built-in telescope, allowing for Harrison to climb his shoulders and use it.

Personality

Palmer is shown to be simple-minded and earnest. He loved sailing because it was something he could throw himself into whole-heartedly. He is willing to fight and die for his allies and loved ones. He is also shown to be rather scatterbrained, easily getting lost and distracted.

Background

Palmer was born to an Orc father and human mother, due to the situation of his birth, he was adopted by a elderly couple in Fallingtown who raised him as his own. His adopted parents would pass away soon after Palmer turned 15, leaving him to fend for himself. He would make a living as a cabin boy on various ships, eventually finding his way onto the crew of famed sailor, Sea Squall Charley. Over many years, Palmer would earn the nickname "Iron Palmer", due to his ability to expertly steer a ship through even the most inclement waters (second only to Sea Squall Charlie himself). He was famed to have never made a late shipment or lost a single crewmember or piece of cargo. However, this all changed when a freak storm destroyed his ship and took the lives of every single crewmember, save for Palmer himself and Harrison, the son of two of Palmer's deckhands who snuck onto the ship to be with his parents. Washing ashore, Palmer adopted Harrison as his own son, and the two would move inland to the City of Doors, although both longing to one day go out to sea again.

In Doors, Palmer would become good friends with Matlock, Lake, and Emerson, forming a pseudo-adventuring party. Matlock specifically would help Palmer back on his feet by landing him a number of odd-jobs, eventually employing him as muscle / security at his pawnshop.

Campaign

Soon after the party arrived in Doors, they saw Palmer, alongside Lake and Emerson, challenging passersby to a game of strength. The challenge, knock out Palmer in three hits or less to triple your gold, while withstanding his punches. After witnessing Morrison be knocked out in a single hit, Bronson decided to step up and challenge Palmer himself. Bronson managed to withstand three full rounds, but could not knock Palmer out when it was his turn to punch. As such, he received his wager back.

Later, during the goblin invasion of Doors, while the party defended the southern gate, Palmer and his allies successfully defended the northern gate. Following this event, Palmer would go missing, with even his close friends (and son) not knowing where he went. During his absence, Palmer would accidentally discover the lair of O. O.,  a Necromancer, killing the wizard and his small army of undead.

He would reappear weeks later in Fallingtown, being revealed to be the Gleaming Mary's Helmsman on its trip to Mazhi.

Relationships

Harrison- Palmer's adopted son. Palmer feels indebted to Harrison's parents, with them dying on a ship he was captain of. He has a hands-off parenting style, often leaving Harrison behind with one of his many friends or colleagues. He used to teach Harrison knots when he was a baby (as this somehow got him to stop crying), leading to Harrison's fascination with the sea.

Matlock- A close friend and partner. Palmer is incredibly loyal to Matlock, as Matlock helped him get back on his feet after experiencing a tragic accident.

Lake and Emerson- Close friends and former adventuring buddies. Palmer takes place in games of strength with them, taking on the role of the strong man.
