On a hot day in the middle of Greenleaf, a flower had bloomed. Given the name Dandelionkit for her blonde colouring and fluffy fur, this kitten was the only one in her litter. She was born to two free spirited cats, a large tom, fur as pale as the sun, his fur regal-looking, always flowing in the wind. And her mother, pelt red like the leaves in leafbare, speckled like the forest floor as the light seeps through the treetops.
Dandelion was a happy kit, always playing within the comfort of the camp. She was satisfied, never questioning what lay beyond. She had always favoured her father and therefore stuck to him like cobwebs, together they gained the nicknames “Big and Little Lion” for their similarities in their coats and names.
As she grew, her fear of leaving her mother’s nest did too. She wasn’t ready to grow up, and as she stopped drinking her mother’s milk, she started eating more as a response to this stress. It was comforting to her as she was reminded of the meals in her youth. But unfortunately, all good things must come to an end as she was dragged into the apprentice den by her exhausted mother.
Now named Dandelionpaw, she dreaded her first day. She swore that she had boulders on her feet as she was brought to the training grounds. Forced to be in a foreign environment, Dandelion was reluctant to do anything, she could hardly focus with her mind spinning in circles.
Her mentor, Badgerheart, was not enthused with her behaviour and tried getting the youngster to snap out of her bewildered state. At first it was working, the furball was starting to train, but the elder warrior noticed the cost of her harsh training. Dandelionpaw had begun gaining weight due to her stress-eating and it was due to how the dark-coated warrior had lectured her in every session. So, she changed her ways, encouraging the blue-eyed apprentice. Though she lacked courage on her own, when she was inspired by someone else, her eyes glowed with passion. This satisfied the warrior.
Dandelionpaw was making progress in her training, she began to look forward to training sessions and talking to her mentor, the warrior really felt like a second mother to her. She would often invite her father to their training sessions to show how well she was doing.
Finally, it was time, thanking her mentor for always being there for her, she said her last goodbyes to her Apprenticeship. Being called up to receive her warrior name, she hesitated, looking back at the ones who supported her, she reluctantly stepped up, her legs shaking at all the attention on her.
The sun was shining brightly on the day she earned her warrior name, her eyes sparkling as the leader spoke out “Dandelionwish!”
She had done it, all her hard work paid off in the form of a name that she’d be called for the rest of her life. It was odd getting used to at first, it made her feel kinda funny inside, but it eventually grew on her.
Her favourite part about her few moons of being a warrior were the nights where she and her father shared stories. Her mother had always tried listening to their stories, but ended up falling asleep early on in the night.
Dandelionwish was scared of the future, but focusing on the present seemed much easier.
