Iris

Iris’ father died when she was young. He was a soldier, he died from a bullet to the brain on one of his deployments. Growing up he was their idol, cool and mysterious, never really knowing why he was gone for months at a time but they knew it was important. She knew when he was away it was for a good reason. Her mother had always told her he was protecting them, making sure they could go to bed peacefully. She never really understood what that meant until there was a knock on their door, and they were given a folded up flag.

Growing up with a single mother wasn’t easy. A lot of Iris’ mother’s values were instilled in her. They were raised to be polite and to put others before themself. Instead of taking out her frustrations on the world and those around her, she vented her feelings through dancing. They started to study ballet, and it is still something they practice to this day.

During the day, Iris is a student at a local college, where she is studying to be an art major! Iris and their friend Nadia have also co-founded the school’s book club! She has an apartment off campus that she shares with her partner, Umbra and her cat, Mallow.

When she is not working on her academics, Iris is a hero in the city of New Lassans. They go by the name Glasswing, and use their light refraction powers to form wings on their back. They have a soul-infused ribbon wand that they can often be seen talking to, weirdly enough.

It had been a few days since Iris had last seen Nadia, and they had begun to worry. Walking around campus, she sees Macabre, Nadia’s brother. Knowing him, he’d probably be the best person to ask about Nadia’s disappearance. Though, when she asked him, with innocent curiosity, she felt the world crumble around her.

"I killed her." For the next few hours, Iris couldn't do anything but stare at a point in space, and wonder what the hell happened.

After Nadia’s death, Iris takes it upon herself to keep the book club alive in her memory. She had watched Nadia grow, and even if Iris was not a large part of her life, Nadia greatly impacted theirs. Since the death of Nadia, Iris’ protectiveness over the group has increased dramatically. Over time the rest of the heroes stop showing up to the club meetings, and she begins to see them less and less. In their absence she fosters a new group of students, and takes it upon herself to protect them. She will not allow them to suffer the same cruel fate her long time friend did.
