Eustace
Benepotentia
Profile
Basics
Though many a Crusader fear the undead, Eustace is a comforting presence in the halls of the castle. The ghostly stallion had occupied the ruins for dozens of years before the Crusade arrived, patrolling its lonely corridors in solitude. Once a warhorse, Eustace is no stranger to battle. Though he cannot fight any longer, he provides support to the Crusaders in what ways his spectral form will allow-- though he's unable to leave the castle grounds.
About
It is rare for the Crusade to ally with the supernatural. The herd has taken a hard stance against the monstrous, and oftentimes ghosts and specters fall under that category. Eustace, however, has proven himself a useful ally to the Crusade despite his undead nature.
When the Crusade settled in the ruins of an ancient castle, there had been a joke that the crumbling towers and rooms were haunted. The cold mountain wind that carried through the empty halls created ghostly wails and the drafts that chilled the new residents were easily explained away as holes in the walls. Some, however, couldn’t shake the feeling that they weren’t alone, and others began to encounter visions of a dead-eyed stallion in the ruins.
Eustace had been an occupant of the castle in the days where it stood proud and fortified. Originally a warhorse, he was kept by humans and retired as he reached his senior age. Content to spend the remainder of his days in the stables and pasture, Eustace was happy. A day came, however, when the castle was set upon by a procession of spectral riders. They stormed the castle, slaying every man and beast in sight. Eustace fell to their swords and, for reasons unknown to him, his soul was tethered to the castle as he died.
His secrecy came to an end after he decided the Crusade’s intentions were noble. Eustace appeared to Vlad and agreed to provide the herd support from beyond the grave. While unable to leave the castle grounds, Eustace is in tune with the castle and, to a degree, can affect the world around him.
