Having been born in N Corp's Nest under another name, Marianne Engel one day became stricken with dreams of other lives she had "lived", soon leaving her more comforting home in the Nest to make a home for herself in the Backstreets. She would begin to work as a sculptor, her gargoyles known to a select clientele who wished to have her fine work upon display.

Morgengabe means "morning gift" (the gift given by the bridegroom to the bride on the morning after the wedding night), and is another reference to one of her lives with her lover.
