Named after the main character of a Virgina Woolf novel of the same name, Orlando is an expression of as many versions of myself as possible; the romantic, the tortured, and the silly.
When it comes to their appearance, Orlando isn’t concerned (at least, they would never show it). Though they smell bad and are covered in mosquito bites and scars, they’re generally unconcerned with, proud, even, of their physical condition. They like to think of their body as a diary, and use that to rationalize the fact that they pick at their scabs and forget to use sunscreen or brush their teeth. They don’t take the best care of themself but usually it isn’t out of purposeful neglect, they just have a slight aversion to cleanliness.
Orlando adores fashion but unfortunately doesn’t often have the energy to dress up. However, when they do, it’s a huge spectacle, mostly because their chosen form of dress is probably highly inappropriate for the event. Their wardrobe is mostly natural colors and red and almost all of their clothes are second hand and well loved. They like to DIY their clothes and most items have been repaired a couple times; but they definitely aren’t immune to trends (as much as they despise them). It’s incredibly hot where they live, so they are often seen in sheer clothing, skirts, and shorts with too many pockets.
Overall, Orlando is an average looking dude who often prioritizes their instincts over self preservation. They aren’t the type of person to hold anything back for the sake of being polite or appropriate, and often talks loudly without realizing and scratches their hands absentmindedly while talking. They often have a lot of bottled up energy and can be quite bouncy especially after eating sugar, and they love to take walks, have dance parties or jump into the nearest body of water to get their energy out. Sometimes you’ll catch them just running around in circles excitedly, a habit they’ve had since they were young. Though they have a childlike demeanor when most comfortable, they have the ability to adapt to different situations and can feign confidence or courage when needed (at school, work, around people they don’t know well).
Orlando is me as a silly little guy :) so I’m about to get real vulnerable here 🤨 let’s start with some basics! Orlando is the oldest of 5 siblings and she’s got awful eldest daughter syndrome. For a long time she thought she had to be perfect to be loved and it led to a lot of jealousy and superiority issues which she has mostly worked through by now, but she still finds herself apologizing for swearing or breaking rules when she does (which isn’t often, because of her crippling fear of authority which is so paradoxical to her considering herself an anarchist). When she does break the rules she goes all out, and it’s led to a couple smudges on her otherwise perfect record.
Growing up she used to be very in control of herself, getting perfect grades and succeeding in most things as it was difficult for her to make friends or fit in so she needed to establish herself as “worthy” a different way. When she did break the façade, she was incredibly awkward, clingy, and obsessed with making sure other people are having fun at any cost. Though today she’s grown a lot from the anxious kid prone to panic attacks, she still is constantly confused on how to navigate social situations. The only difference is now, she doesn’t care 😎

Orlando’s personality is a heaping pile of contradictions. They’re brave enough to move across the world alone, but too scared to let people into the parts of them that hurt. They were raised by middle class parents and crust punks, in worlds completely unalike from each other. They’re prideful and insecure all at the same time, obsessive sometimes and bored to death at others. A hopeless optimist who’s angry at the world for making them feel small, they sometimes think they are losing their mind.

Orlando spends his days listening to loud music (hence, the hearing problems), reading, writing, and drawing. He likes to daydream, and he has aspirations of someday publishing a graphic novel. Lowbrow films and comics intrigue him but he also adores less obscure things like Percy Jackson and Adventure Time, and anything nostalgic and girly (Winx Club and Barbie movies especially). He has many hobbies and interests, from farming to cooking to ceramics to singing & has to do something creative everyday or he goes insane. No matter what he’s doing, he’s probably making a mess and having a great time.

Instances of indecision: he can’t choose whether he wants to spend his days wandering the forest or the city. If he trades shadows for disco lights or companions for tree trunks he’ll always be feeling like he’s missing something, though he can be happy anywhere as long as there’s something romantic about it.
But when it comes to actual romance… that’s another can of worms best left buried under 6 feet of dirt. They can’t even begin to describe their sexuality but know it’s worth far more to have close friends than lovers; though she’s been known to push the boundaries in the ways that only girls can.
They’re a lover. They love people, and nature, and the world. They love food, and dancing, and the ocean. They love making their friends cut their hair and sleepovers and making pão de queijo from scratch and taking pictures of flowers. They love their friends and laughing until they can’t breathe and truth or dare and ghost stories.
They never wanna grow up. They just wanna keep being that mischievous little kid drawing during class and building forts at recess. Life has been rough but it’s also been beautiful, and they just wanna have fun.
