The tomboyish younger sister of Roxeen Griffon. 

Physical description

Aretta inherited her father's chin and violet eyes, and her mother's dark hair. Luckily for her, her hair takes bleach and dye well, and she has a habit of getting brightly colored streaks dyed into it. She tends to favor loose cargo pants or similar made of fabrics that hold up well to abuse, and is often less concerned about appearance than convenience and comfort. Too-large flannel shirt? If it keeps her from catching a cold in the rain, she has no objections. 

Personality

Aretta won't generally let other people dictate to her what she should do, but is more inclined than her brother to at least try to play nice and not deliberately ruffle feathers. When she considers something her business and not someone else's, she's quite happy employing "what they don't know won't hurt them" style reasoning. Tends to chafe against her older brother's protectiveness, and sometimes does let irritation with it influence her actions.

Knows what she wants and gives no shits if you consider it gender-appropriate.

As she reaches adulthood, she becomes more inclined to overtly stand up to both her mother and her brother, and in doing so becomes something of the "fun aunt" for particularly the oldest of Roxeen's stepdaughter.

Family & relationships

Oldest of Roxeen Griffon's younger sisters - also has a younger full sister (Sparrow) and a gaggle of younger half-sisters on her mother's side.
Has a more realistic view of her father (Kwan Griffon) than her brother does, but generally thinks he's a decent man who made some bad choices.
Raised by her mother, later on joined by her mother's new husband, but her relationship with both of them (though particularly her stepfather Rock) grows increasingly strained over time, partly in reaction to their mistreatment of Roxeen.
Conceives a daughter by Roxeen's boyfriend (prior to the two of them meeting), who is being raised by her father and uncle. 

Lives with former slave Grace Flame, and the two are occasional lovers.
Is at least nodding acquaintances with most of her brother's high school friends and Rabbit Hole coworkers - some of them significantly more.

Background

Aretta and Roxeen were practically attached at the hip during their early childhood, up until Roxeen and their father moved out of state. Lived for a number of years believing her mother's claims that Kwan had deliberately run himself and his son off a bridge and that her brother thus was dead, until he unexpectedly showed up back in their home town. Once their mother regained custody of Roxeen, their relationship remained strained for some time - largely because Aretta remained skeptical regarding Roxeen's claims of abuse at the hands of their stepfather. Once she witnessed such an incident herself, however, her attitude shifted promptly, and while she's tried to at least placate her mother enough to remain on speaking terms, she is generally on her brother's side in that conflict.

Insisted on going to Avelyon High when the time came to enroll in high school, largely because Roxeen went there, and spent a couple of years as an undergrad in the Western Empire, where she purchased Grace at her mother's insistence, fully intending to release the woman once the time came to return to Erigineea. She did not, however, choose to continue her studies after returning, instead securing an apprenticeship with a local car mechanic. Fixes cars for a living, goes clubbing at least a few nights a week, and does her best to not draw her brother's attention to the latter.
