Haruka
she/her | ? yrs

Once heralded as a goddess by worshippers who kept her captive since youth, Haruka one day received a "divine vision" that prompted her to break free and fulfill what she thought to be her destiny: to slumber and die in an ancient, dead sea and bring life to it once more. Once a soulless husk of a dragon, Haruka was given a chance to grow into her emotions and explore a new path of being, no matter how clumsily.

PERSONALITY
adamant capricious wistful

Having long lived in a lethargic state, carefully cared for by her worshippers, Haruka never had a strong sense of self or purpose. Even just her existence seemed to satisfy the cult, desperate for a sense of security, for the protection of a divine being such as a dragon. She would shallowly respond to prayers, repeating the words she was told to recite by the head monks without really knowing their meanings — shedding crystallized tears for the priests to collect. Such monotony became her everyday life, and without anything to contrast the feeling of boredom, she never truly felt it as such.

But a longing for release remained deep-seated in her heart, and it emerged with her escape from captivity. After breaking the cuffs that binded her legs together and kept her powers contained, she gained a new sense of self-awareness that manifested as resentment towards her captors, and an ambition to fulfill the prophecy she saw. That, and an innocent curiosity for the unexplored land around her, are both enough to keep her wandering the continent in search of its other side: where the hidden sea she is meant to save might be.

Now, Haruka is generally aloof and self-interested, having lived without making any bonds, and being practically unable to truly define or identify "loneliness" in herself. As she never had any chance to explore and learn about her feelings, she has been left somewhat emotionally immature — not that having a feral temperament is particularly unfitting for a dragon. She is also independent almost to a fault, believing she only has herself to rely on, lest she be taken advantage of — and her archaic speech mannerisms aren't really any help to strangers trying to better understand her. But exploring a new world has given her the opportunity to learn more of herself, and give others' kindness a chance as well....

Appearance
Design Notes
  • The pattern on her clothes is supposed to resemble water hyacinths.
  • Her veil and the bindings on her legs may be removed when drawing, but they must be removed together.
  • The length of her body/tail can be exaggerated. (When in doubt, make it longer...?)
  • She may be drawn with teary eyes / tears running down her cheeks. Her tears crystallize into pearls if that's something you want to experiment with when drawing lol
