Profile

A current character concept. He grew up in the Feywild in a nice Satyr town. He is a bard, though he did not start as a true, magical bard, but rather just an entertainer at the tavern, where he played a lute and sang some folk songs.

At the age of 19, he decided to try his hand at writing his own songs. One that became a popular hit right away was a jaunty tune about the hag the lived in the area. The song was essentially a diss track; it was a rhyming tune about how bad she looked, smelled, and accusations of kissing pigs, bathing in slug goo, and so on. Little did he know, that he would end up preforming this song in front of her. Hags can create powerful illusions, including ones that disguise themselves as someone else. The "traveler" in the taven on this fateful night was the hag. Furious at the song, she cursed him, taking away his voice and his ability to read and write forever. He can no longer speak or sing, and any attempts to read or write are clouded by words continously shifting on the page, unreadable to him. What is a bard without the ability to speak? Or even write? A bard is supposed to be, in a way, a historian.

He fell into a great depression. Everyone around him only looked at him with pity. All he could do is gesture and charades. After about a year of near torment from everyone treating him differently and trying to cope with being voiceless, he packed up his stuff and left on a solo adventure. Just to get away from it all. He left his lute behind, instead traveling lighter with a pan flute, and instrument he only knew the basics of how to play.

He spent the next several years gaining confidence and skill in himself and his pan flute abilites. As a wandering traveler of the feywilds, he saw and heard a large variety of magical creatures. Birds, frogs, bugs, the sounds of streams, rain, and of the wind. These inspired him. He learned to connect with the magical aspects of being a true Bard. Now, instead of singing with a lute, he plays his Pan Flute and uses Prestidigitation, cast with the flute, to create an accompaniment of the sounds of nature he has heard on his travels.

He gains mastery over Minor Illusion and Prestidigitation in order to tell stories. Shifting shadows on the wall to create visuals, smells. Silent Image in some cases. There are some spells that he will never be able to cast such as Command, Viscous Mockery, and Illusory Script, but others he has learned to cast with song, like Healing Word and Sleep.

His name is not actually Frog. Having lost the ability to tell anyone his name, he had to find a way to communicate a consitent name to others. He carries a small, carved wooden frog. When others ask him his name, he shows it to them until they figure out that he would like to be called "Frog", then they get a smile and a head nod and/or a thumbs up. Over the years he becomes pretty competent and confident at his charades game, and loses his shame around being mute. He has accepted it and is not seeking to break the curse. It has lead him on a beautiful journey of discovering the song of the world around him, that he cannot interupt with his own speech.

Eventually, he finds a passage from the Fey Wilds to the material plane. He goes, to discover more sounds and find stories to tell. I would say his age upon starting a campaign would be around 32. Ideally, we would start at level 3 or 4.
