Arlael grew up expecting to take over his dads business, but on his 22nd birthday, his mom woke him up, tossed him a travel bag and an adventuring license telling him that his quest is starting soon and he better not flake on it. Over a few quests, he accidentally ended up becoming a guard of the Kingdom of Latune after having to help take down his adventuring party and their plans to kill the royal family.
His big ol scar is a reference to the first ever 5e game I played, I didn't know how anything worked and the DM told me to roll for a level. I got a 1. So naturally, within the first hit of the first combat, Arlael fucking died on the spot. The DM realized what happened and had someone help me with character creation and upped his level since everyone else was like 4 or 5. Within his lore, its from his then party realizing he stabbed them in the back and attempted to kill him, but due to the situation, they failed both their mission and their revenge.
