Early life
Naphos had a rough life when he was a kid. Due to his parents' negligence, he had to learn how to basically survive on his own. Poverty is quite common in The Lowlands, so nobody ever gave that poor lonely boy a coin to buy some food with. The apple market lady used to be very rude to him, always telling him to leave whenever he was near, so he decided to always steal from her in order to be able to eat anything.
One day while he was running away he met a mysterious looking boy who helped the market lady chase him down. However the boy felt pity for Naphos, and decided to let him go. Naphos thanked the boy many times, but all he said was that his alias was Darthos, and that they still had things to settle and that he would come find him and make him pay for his crimes someday.
Lethos
As time went by Naphos got accustomed to living in poverty and far away from home. He followed a routine and perfected his skills to avoid getting caught. He learned how to be silent, keep quiet and never speak to anybody. Darthos had been tormenting him for years, as if for his own entertainment: he went as far as to try and scratch his right eye off. Naphos, however, never complained about anything Darthos ever did. He wanted to avoid trouble, as he always thought Darthos was part of a very wealthy family, and he knew he had nothing to do against them. Naphos lived in a cave far away from the city, inside a mountain. It wasn't the best place to live, but it sure was better than a prison cell.
One day, when returning to his cave, he found a girl inside it. He was terrified, but the girl looked unwell, so he decided to look after her. The girl wasn't replying to anything he said, it was as if she couldn't speak. Her body was covered in wounds yet she had a peaceful expression on her face. Naphos cleaned her and treated her wounds as best as he could, and gathered some more food for her if she ever woke up, which he was unsure of. When he came back the girl was walking around the place, and naphos felt intimidated. The girl, who was horror-struck, asked him who he was and why was he there. Naphos explained the situation as best as he could; that the cave was his home and she was there, so he wanted to help. The girl was suspicious of Naphos, but when he offered her an apple she realized there was nothing to fear. Once she had finished eating she claimed to feel very strong again, and tried healing her wounds with her own powers, which Naphos was amazed of. While doing this, the girl asked him his name. He replied "Naphos", knowing it was a fake name modeled after the fake name Darthos himself used. The girl seemed to do the same, as she said her name was Lethos.
Better times
With Lethos, his life got much better. They became good friends quickly, and she helped him in his tasks. Whenever he was stealing, she would distract the market sellers and help him not get caught. With Lethos by Naphos' side, Darthos feared he had nothing more to do to Naphos and tried befriending him as well. Lethos always tried to scare him off as she felt there was something fishy about Darthos because Naphos would start shaking the moment he was near him. Naphos never mentioned what really happened to his eye; he told Lethos he had an accident and went blind in his right eye because of it. Lethos tred healing his eye as best as she could, but her powers were underdeveloped at the time. Still, Naphos was incredibly grateful for what she did, as he could now at peast partially see with that eye again.
Lethos kept living with Naphos in the cave they both met, but Lethos had helped make it a lively place. She would bring trash she found on the streets tht she felt could make the place look any better. She would bring old, frayed rugs people didn't want anymore; candles that the market sellers never managed to sell so they would throw them away... Both her and Naphos had a prettier place to live thanks to this. She felt this was the least she could do to thank him.
They both grew together, they helped eachother out and made it through childhood. Naphos forgot everything Darthos ever did to him and his priority went from surviving to taking care of Lethos. He felt she saved his life, so he wanted to protect her at all costs. Once older they both started working for people in order to earn some money to stop stealing from people. Naphos started working with the apple market lady in order to pay her back for all the apples he stole, and in exhange she would give him a couple apples at the end of the day. They lived in better condition now, and Naphos thought he could be genuinely happy for the first time in his life.
However, Darthos came back into his life. It had been many years since they had met. Darthos was a completely different person now. Naphos couldn't fully trust them, but he decided to forgive them, as he saw they had changed. Or so he thought...
Naphos quickly fell in love with them. They seemed like a more loving and caring person now. Lethos was grossed out by this and found Darthos a bit suspicious, but she wanted Naphos to be happy, so she never tried to stop them when Naphos told her they had started dating. As time went by Naphos seemed more and more sad, he wasn't as lively as before. Darthos was just putting up a facade. They were, in fact, not a loving and caring person, but rather a very manipulative and abusive person. They hurt Naphos a lot and Naphos was scared of them once again. One day he finally told Lethos everything that was happening. He told her how he was scared of breaking up with them because he felt they would hunt him down like they did back then. He asked Lethos for help, and they made a plan together. However, it didn't seem to work well...
