- Enlisted with the flaming fists at age 15, 2 years after Mimi disappeared. Trained with them until he was 18 at which point he was discharged without being assigned a rank due to his refusal to take bribes and insistance on trying to keep Mimi's case open despite there being zero leads for 5 years at that point. Learned his way around a greatsword from this brief period of his life.
- After being discharged from the fists he took up bartending at Sharess' Caress (also at age 18) in hopes of overhearing some sort of gossip that would lead him to Mimi, where he thrived due to being charismatic and able to keep people talking and drinking and thus spending money. Despite his success, it still paid rather poorly for a guy who was trying to support he and his sister's lives in the City.
- Struggling to maintain their lifestyle in the city, he began accepting requests for "Other Work" from customers in exchange for a far more livable salary two years into his time working at the Caress (at age 20). Slowly transitioned away from tending the bar entirely to courtesan work for the pay while continuing to seek out knowledge of his missing friend's whereabouts.
- During his 10 years at the Caress, he befriended the detective Valeria by falsifying her tab while tending the bar and later sneaking her free bottles of wine meant for his clients once he switched to courtesan work in exchange for her keeping her eyes and ears open for information on Mimi, much to her annoyance. Though they often squabbled and made jabs at each other, Valeria did care for him and often tried to convince him to take his sister and leave the city for the sake of his mental health, though these pleas fell on deaf ears.
- Abducted by the Mind Flayers at age 28 on his way home from work one evening, hence his outfit. He was abducted right around the corner from where Astarion was also grabbed, and had they not been kidnapped their paths may have crossed that night, leading to K'otos untimely death and Astarion's eventual sacrifice for Cazador's ritual.
