SELPIE

THEY / THEM ONLY | MASTERLIST ENTRY

DO NOT DRAW IN BURROWGATORY OR INTERACTING WITH BUNS BASED PRIMARILY IN BURROWGATORY, THANK YOU!

Selpie is a succubun with an insatiable curiosity for knowledge, and an occult-like fascination with magic. They’ve fully embraced the “swamp witch goblincore” aesthetic, and that’s what they’ve seemingly based their identity around. They practice and learn about any and all forms of magic that they can, including crystals and ki energy, tarot cards, mixing potions, reading tea leaves and “palms”, practicing spells and performing rituals, you name it! However, they’re usually the only one who believes in their own magic, as their advice and readings make literally no sense to anyone else. The real magic is what’s in your heart anyway, right?
Selpie’s childhood neglect at the hands of Gremory has shaped many aspects of their life, but they try their hardest everyday to be the best version of themselves that they can. As an envy bun dumped into the wilderness at the beginning of adulthood, they haven’t properly learned or been able to utilize their social skills in a meaningful way, making communication with others (even other envy buns) difficult. They do want to make friends, but it’s very difficult for them. Often coming across as aloof and stubborn due to their guarded nature, their main driving force is curiosity. Selpie investigates everything around them, constantly on the hunt for more knowledge or to learn about something they didn’t know before. Whether that be through reading books, conducting studies, or even just casual observation, Selpie leaves no rock unturned and no question unanswered.
Understandably, Selpie is very frightened of Burrowgatory and modern society at large. They’ve handcrafted a literal cabin in the woods (swamp) with their partner Decay for the two to live out their days in and focus on their own endeavors, surviving on their own terms. As Selpie is very… spiritual, they have a small horde of imps that they treat as equals and listen to. Their imps are an integral part of the household, helping with tasks and living their own lives, with Selpie’s care. Their curiosity however, always leaves them wondering what it’s like with all those other buns, in the big city… in order to try and “reach out” to society, Selpie likes to write stories and novels about the true (and not-so-true) encounters in the thicket. Decay illustrates them with an extremely creepy Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark art style, and the two send their books off to Burrowgatory in exchange for supplies from a third party. This arrangement has garndered some fans of their work in the city, though no one is quite sure how to contact the mysterious forest duo.
Selpie is unique in more ways than one. They truly have no concept or understanding of gender or why one would feel so compelled to only present themselves as one singular form. They freely flex between presenting as feminine, masculine, and androgynous, though they always use “they/them” pronouns. Alongside this their anxiety around others can leave them a shambling mess, along with sensory processing issues that make unpleasant textures, smells, and sounds downright unbearable. They’ve gone to great lengths to ensure their home is a safe haven full of white noise (or pan flute and lyre music, lo-Fi fantasy tavern beats to study/practice spells to) to help focus their thoughts, pleasant herbal aromas, and soft, comfy textures to ensure everything feels as good as possible. Even despite the different feelings of attire, Selpie’s got a phenomenal fashion sense, despite them literally being “just clothes”. The white noise of the waterfall by their home, along with music and machines coming together help Selpie focus their thoughts, though they do verbalize their entire inner monologue at all times. Always muttering about something is an annoyance that future friends will have to put up with, though Decay finds their musings comforting.
Selpie is a bun that longs for the company of others, but is too anxious to put themselves out there at the moment. Their partner Decay and their many imps are all the friendship they need for now, though they’d love to somehow make new friends. Through their nearly self-sustaining witch hut, creative endeavors and insatiable curiosity, they’re going to have adventures and explore new ideas no matter what happens.
Way, wayyyy more to be written and formatted!
