The estranged Belphegor-archdemon father of Baxter, who operated with far less power and precedence and is generally regarded more modestly in memory. More active in the mid 19th century prior, he officially "retired" in the 1870's at Baxter's pressure to withdraw, morbidly embarrassed of his father's "spineless," servile career-- particularly after suckering himself into a great debt with the demon Malphas to have a baby Baxter's throne constructed. Though Monroe regards Baxter with extreme pride, he hasn't spoken to him since Baxter officially left the nest, but Monroe enjoys something akin to retirement from his throne, a crawling lighthouse that leaves behind bricks in its wake.
However, his story of retirement is complete fiction-- any demon would recognize it. He's technically one of Baxter's legionnaires, being typical and expected for archdemon lineages to voluntarily work in service to the next generation, but Baxter has no interest in summoning Monroe for anything. An older man, Monroe is content in his suspended status, determinedly ignoring feelings of uselessness his son seems to imply.
