OVERVIEW

"So long the heavens will, for the safety of the people we offer our skills."

The Tianliu Clan is a Military Force in Liyue that is separate from the Millelith, and is not under the Liyue Qixing's command. The Tianliu Clan is headed by the Liu Family, and is tasked to protect Liyue and its people. The current head of the Tianliu Clan and the Liu Family is Liu Minhua.

When the Tianliu Clan was first created, they were known as the Tianliu Army - a group banded by an unnamed man with the surname Liu, who wanted to aid the Adepti in protecting Liyue without having to submit to the Millelith's authority structure. As they held true to their cause and deemed to be invaluable to be Liyue, they were allowed to remain as a separate entity so long as they continue to fulfill their oath of protecting Liyue. The position of the Head was passed down to the eldest legitimate son of the Liu Family's main branch, and they would also serve as the main representatives in political meetings and gatherings as well. The fighting styles and other arts that were taught to and learned by the Tianliu Army would also be passed down through generations in fulfillment of their oaths.

Liu Minhua is the first female Clan Head of the Tianliu Clan. Under her rule, she also revised a few regulations and structures, now spreading the clan members throughout Teyvat to protect more than just Liyue.

MISSION & PURPOSE

To uphold Liyue's peace and safety is the Tianliu Clan's mission first and foremost. They were formed long before the Archon War ended to aid Rex Lapis and fight against the malicious entities who threatened the people and their safety. Even after the war ended and things stabilized, the clan did not disband and chose to continue this oath for generations to come. Second to this is to assist the Millelith and the Liyue Qixing in keeping the balance in Liyue. While they have less involvement with regards to the trades in Liyue, the clan's reputation and honor puts them on nearly the same pedestal. They are allowed to exercise necessary measures to ensure that there will be no political strife within Liyue - regardless of whether this strife was caused by an internal or external variable.

Following Liu Minhua's reorganization of the clan's structure and purpose, the Tianliu Clan now aims to maintain the safety of all of Teyvat and its people. The clan members sent to other nations are not only there to assist the nation's military force should it be deemed necessary, but also to collect information should there be in-fighting among the nations of Teyvat.

VALUES & PRINCIPLES

As the Tianliu Clan's Motto says, "So long as the heavens wills, for the safety of the people we offer our skills"; so long as it is the Lord of Geo keeps his order to protect the nation and its people, that would remain as their top and utmost priority. Similarly, so long as malicious entities plague the land, they will not rest until they are eliminated - even at the cost of their lives.

Liu Minhua and her immediate circle no longer exclusive fulfill their oaths to Rex Lapis, instead considering them as their oaths to the people of Teyvat. As a result, they no longer think about what is morally right or not, and whether their actions would receive the approval of the gods; rather, they no longer care about the methods, so long as the meet the necessary outcome for the greater good.

Following her succession as well was the new rule that kinship extends to the battlefield. While it is their priority to protect the people, they are also to protect their kins so long as all hope is not lost. They are also to believe in each other and in the clan, creating tight bonds that are invaluable on the battlefield.

CODE OF CONDUCT

  1. Mission. Members of the Tianliu Clan are expected to fulfill their centuries-old oath to protect Liyue and its people, regardless of who and what the threat is. Now, their mission extends to all of Teyvat and its inhabitants.
  2. Kinship. Members of the Tianliu Clan are expected to uphold kinship second only to their mission. Those who abandon their kin with a malicious intent is automatically deemed a traitor, and has no place within the clan.
  3. Confidentiality. Members of the Tianliu Clan are taught the Tianliu Clan Arts and Styles. They are expected to keep this knowledge within the clan and are forbidden from teaching them to outsiders.
  4. Objectivity. Members of the Tianliu Clan are required to remain objective in making a judgment. They are expected to investigate all facts and perspectives, and to avoid letting their own experiences and emotions cloud their overall vision.
  5. Compliance, Not Submission. Members of the Tianliu Clan are expected to comply with the Liyue Qixing and the Millelith to fulfill their mutual goals of protecting Liyue. But the Tianliu Clan should not submit, and must remain as an independent entity.

Elites

The Elites is a ranking that refers to the Clan Head's immediate circle, the representative of the other family lines within the Tianliu Clan, and other notable figures that directly report to the Clan Head. They are the foundation of the clan, as well as the mentors of the younger generation, and are expected to maintain a sense of kinship between each other. Zhou Feng and He Jianyu are the two known Elite Guards, where as Kira is also known as an Clan Elite.

Recruitment Process

The Tianliu Clan has no specific recruitment process as it is not a formal military force that is enforced by the government. Most of the families within the clan are descendants of the families that allied themselves with the Liu Family several thousands of years ago, with the newcomers usually being those who failed or refused to enter the Millelith, or orphans that were saved by the Tianliu Clan and had nowhere else to go.

While there are no specific processes or requirements, it is agreed upon that the Clan Head must give their approval. As such, when He Jianyu was taken in the clan at the age of five, his adoptive father had to wait for the former Clan Head's, Liu Jiahao, approval; meanwhile, Zhou Feng, who was brought back by Liu Jiahao himself, was automatically part of the clan. It was also because of this that Kira was not officially affiliated with the Tianliu Clan itself upon her allegiance with Liu Minhua, as it was Liu Zhixin who was the Clan Head at the time.

Clan Arts & Styles

All of the members of the Tianliu Clan are expected to learn and master how to wield at least one weapon and bare-handed combat; they are also taught basic medical skills, and carry light medical equipment on their person when sent on missions.

The fighting styles that are passed down within the clan are mishmashed styles of the founders, as well as the styles they have learned from Rex Lapis, the Adepti, and other sources - regardless whether it was learned directly or indirectly. The most commonly-used weapons within the clan are swords and spears.

The Liu Family were also blessed with an ability to control elements without the use of Visions, but with a heavier expense of their energies. These, along with some Adeptal Arts the founders were taught, would be taught to the Clan Heirs and Heads that will serve as their trump should they face a bigger threat.

HEADQUARTERS

Their main and primary headquarters is hidden away somewhere in Qingce Village. As Qingce Village is known for being a peaceful retirement area, it is convenient for the Tianliu Clan to remain here and be left to their own devices. It is also quite near the abandoned places in Liyue that are now lurking with monsters and other entities; as such, the location gives them the convenience to attend to threats and make patrols immediately.

Though there is no rule that everyone must stay within the Clan Grounds at all times, as there are several housings and facilities within the Clan Grounds, most members choose to stay within. The front-most residence there is the Liu Family's residence, which also serves as the main office. The largest facility is the training facility where they regularly perform drills and spars.

After the structural rearrangement, the Tianliu Clan now has different smaller headquarters in other nations, but appear the same as post houses there to avoid unwanted attention and negative opinions. For Mondstadt, the headquarters there is also the Liu Family's home, as the forces assigned there are Liu Minhua, Liu Xinyi, and their respective guards.

PUBLIC OPINION

The Tianliu Clan is a dignified clan and organization, and is well-known within Liyue. Outside of Liyue, though, while there are some people who might have heard of them, they are not completely known as with the Millelith.

The general opinion about them is mostly positive, having a reputation of fulfilling their promise in protecting Liyue and laying down their lives to eliminate threats. But as they live outside of the Harbor and usually stay out of the business there, there is no opinion about them that goes beyond what the general consensus is. Despite this, though, it is acknowledged that despite their distance from the main matters in the Harbor, they are just as important as the Liyue Qixing itself in maintaining the balance.

Privately, though, the Liyue Qixing has some disapproval about the Tianliu Clan's methods, especially with the change Liu Minhua brought forth. This was the reason why Liu Minhua was repeatedly questioned about her seemingly forming alliance with the Fatui, due to her good relationship with a Fatuus.
