They are a species of alien called a Chamibrux that exists in a state of energy/light at the start of their lives, born when a star goes supernova; the more of the universe they experience, the more they build their form around them! Each Chamibrux has a 'core' of light in place of their heart.
A chamibrux has the ability to change their appearance at will, though they generally choose one form to be a default.
