STORY

Not much is known about Carly's birth family, since she was orphaned at a very young age. However, as an omniscient narrator, I can provide info on them. Some of this Carly herself doesn't even know. This was around the time just before the Hylian - Sheikah wars pre BOTW. Carly was born into a family that lived at a stable in the Faron Region. They loved studying the Zonai and had sheikah ancestry. Her father was a war veteran that had gained an experimental prosthetic made of sheikah tech after losing a limb. Her mother was an inventor who had originally planned to study under Purah. Mother loved working on plants and wildlife. One of her prototypes was a healing flower, but unfortunately, as Calamity Ganon began preparing to awaken, malice had invaded their home and the project was lost to time. Though Carly doesn't remember it, she had technically witnessed the death of her birth parents. She does, however, still remember the malice. It caused a fear of the goopy substance, even though she cannot remember why she is so scared of it. Left alone without much way to care for herself, Carly lingered around her old house for a while. She did not understand how to cook or find food. She ended up finding her mother's old prototype one day, keeping it. The flower actually worked properly, and the healing function allowed her to go without food for a few weeks before its energy had to recharge (since it is a prototype, this first usage ended up being the strongest it could've been. The recharging thing gets weaker each time unless it is fully repaired. Carly does not know this, hence why she does not accept Mipha's Grace later on and how I balanced her in roleplay.) After that, Carly ventured into the forest. The weather was very unpredictable. A storm had passed by, and she got stranded. Luckily, a group of foxes had found her lying out and led her back to their den. The one that found her will eventually be called Roxy. Carly is accepted into the pack (technically, a group of foxes is called a leash or a shulk but those sound odd so I'm going with pack for convenience.) after some trial and error. Since she never fully learned Hylian, she learns how to communicate with animals instead. Generally, she understands foxes the best, but can make out common phrases of other species. Since foxes are nocturnal, Carly developed an unnatural sleeping pattern. She still struggles with being diurnal to this day. She also developed sharp teeth for chewing on things, and can run on all fours. Yes, she's literally feral. But since she never really had any proper defenses other than the torn clothes from her childhood, her immune system diminished significantly. She got many bug bites, and her asthma got worse due to going untreated. Even so, she was incredibly fit and fast due to running through the forest, which resulted in her being very skinny for a long while. Eventually, a fateful day came when Nadetta Callisto's traveling group passed through Faron Woods. The traveler ended up discovering the lost child. When Carly tried to introduce her to her pack, things didn't go too well, and Nadetta ran away. Carly wanted to follow, however. Roxy, who had been like a mother to her, accompanied the girl. After negotiations with Nadetta's traveling band, Carly was formally adopted, and Roxy was kept as a family pet. Learning how to be a Hylian again was perhaps the hardest challenge of her life. She was incredibly irritable, did not understand the formation of the language, and most confusing of all were towns. The towering buildings were incredibly daunting. But in time, she learned. Carly became an expert on the Hylian Language after her struggles motivated her to not dissapoint her new parents. Their traveling group disbanded after a while, but before then, Carly met Luto, who was around her age.

She loved seeing sheikah magic, and Luto even managed to somewhat repair her flower. They were only friends for two years, but the boy left a lasting impression on her. Settling down in Lurelin, Nadetta and Eshana were officially married. She met even more of her new family, including her technically-aunt-but-actually-way-younger-than-her Farei, who she taught academics to. Uncle Dimitri taught her martial arts and basic swordplay, but she insisted on not pursuing study. At the time, she simply was more interested in books, but over time she grew to hate the sight of weapons and developed a strong pacifism. Swimming was one of her favorite pastimes, though she could not stand being on a boat, for some reason. Having a minor seafood allergy and hating boats was an ordeal for being in a fishing village, but she managed. Grandpa Danté introduced her to the concept of Hylia, and while she believed in it, she was not very religious. Carly developed very strong beliefs during this time, and she holds them very dear to her heart. She never knew how to manage her emotions, however, and when the Great Calamity struck, things only got worse. The events of BOTW play out a little differently in this universe. After the Champions die in their divine beasts and Link is sent to the Shrine of Resurrection, things get a little out of hand. The Shrine is unfortunately not enough to save Link, and he dies in the process. Lurelin is attacked by the Yiga, and there's enough bad luck going around to where Luto is a part of the regiment. When Carly sees him fighting on the enemy's side, she's incredibly angry - but she won't fight him. The two argue for quite some time while the battle outside rages on, and eventually Carly's pacifism is taken for granted when Luto manages to land a major blow to the head, which gives her a deadly concussion. The Yiga are driven away, thanks to the Callisto Family's excellent battle tactic, but Nadetta is absolutely furious with the attackers for hurting her child. Eshana is beside herself with worry, but is reasonable enough to devise a way to get Carly to the Shrine of Ressurection. The family is forced to go home, though, as the Shrine takes years to do its work. At this time, the Great Plateau rises up from the ground, making the journey there impossible. Four years pass, and Carly Callisto awakes on her 16th birthday not to the cheers of her family and cake, but to amnesia and a broken Hyrule. But she does have one thing; someone. Telling her to open her eyes. Not the Princess of Hyrule, but Roxy. Since she had not slept for nearly as long as Link would've, she does not lose all of her memories, but a lot of her history is foggy. Roxy is able to guide her around the Great Plateau for a while, until they meet a strange old man. He was trapped here waiting for Link to reawaken, but apparently never received word of his death. From this point, the story of BOTW plays out. The Old Man is revealed as King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule, and Carly is told to seek out Impa. Which she absolutely, does not do. At least not right then. Carly remembers a place by the sea, and Kakariko is not that. She wants to find the place where her memories are. Her home. And in time, she does. Upon entering Lurelin, the memories come flooding back and a tearful reunion with her family occurs. But after a few months, she knows that she needs to save Hyrule, and she has to do it on her own. She does not want to be a hero. She simply wants a better future for her family. Traveling across Hyrule, she meets Cerule, Dahira, and Zara, who she helps with their problems, gaining compassion and memories along the way. She frees Divine Beast Vah Ruta, but as she is not the hero Mipha knew, Carly refuses to take her power from her. Mipha understands, but promises to watch over her on her journey. She does the same with Daruk, but the Goron Champion is insistent on it. Carly reluctantly accepts Daruk's Protection. Heading to the Gerudo Desert next after hearing that's where the Yiga Hideout is, she is accepted into Gerudo Town with no trouble, as a Vai herself. She grows fond of their traditions and picks up Gerudo as her third language. Becoming friends with Chief Riju, she promises to help get her Thunder Helm back. A raid on the Yiga Hideout does not go well, but surprisingly, Luto busts her out. She's very confused about how she should feel. More bad luck comes when Carly almost dies thanks in part to Vah Naboris' lightning. She hates that she can't do anything, but she cannot appease Vah Naboris. Carly moves on to the Rito region. Thankfully, Vah Medoh is passed without much difficulty. Revali doesn't think Link worthy of his power, but after the way Carly expertly managed Vah Medoh, he grants her Revali's Gale. Carly still hates his jerky attitude, though. It reminds her of a certain someone who gave her a concussion. Carly has mixed feelings about the Master Sword. She knows it's the mark of the Hero of Hyrule, which she doesn't want to be, but she knows that she needs to defeat Ganon. The sword accepts her as its master nonetheless, though she does not wish to hold a sword in her hand in the first place. Deciding that the time is nigh to defeat the Calamity, Carly gathers up a ragtag team of her allies to storm Hyrule Castle. She hates the prospect of other people getting hurt, but it's her best bet, and thankfully, it ends up working. The fight against Ganon is hers alone, though. The malice monster is incredibly terrifying, and she doesn't want to fight, but she pushes through for her friend's sake. Instead of riding on horseback, Carly fights Beast Ganon on foot, to not endanger anyone else, especially animals. Besides, she has the stamina and speed of a modern track athlete, so it works out. Ganon is defeated, and Hyrule is saved. Carly goes back to Lurelin to find that Luto has changed completely while she's been out traveling, and he's adopted by the Callisto Family. Carly never stops being the optimist, however, and she constantly tries to improve the world.
