nat has loved bug pokemon with all his heart all his life!! they're tiny and adorable, full of joy and curiosity. he's a bug catcher in anville town that dreams of becoming a bug-type gym leader like bugsy or burgh!

being from anville town, he spends a lot of time near trains. he doesn't ride them very much (gets trainsick v easily) but loves watching people come in and out and thinking about where they're going and what they do! he gets to see pokemon and trainers from all over the world coming and going, which really inspires him.

a little lonely caterpie wandered off the train one day, seemingly without a trainer at all! since they aren't native to unova nat worried about how it'd be able to handle itself in the unfamiliar environment, so he took the sweet creature under his wing to help it out! the two were near inseparable quickly, even though it wasn't nat's original intention to keep the caterpie for himself. he'd given it a temporary nickname 'little' when they first met to try and keep from getting to attached, but it kinda stuck and now it's just his name... :'D

since he felt that even if he let the caterpie go he'd just follow him around anyway, nat decided to officially capture the endearing little babby and make him the first member of his party!

nat's dream was to take over the bug-type gym in castelia city one day, but he got too trainsick to take the train there and actually visit it. bug types are were primary focus and he spent a lot of time in the forests surrounding anville town observing them, but he really cared for all pokemon. it's custom for trainers to only capture pokemon that actively seek out being part of a trainer's team, and he did catch a couple of pokemon in this way, but he befriended many pokemon that remained wild as well.

eventually, his mother suggested that he go on a real pokemon journey, on foot, as tradition and his sensitivity dicated; the route from anville town to icirrus city was rough, but he'd gained a lot of experience in anville's forests. she gifted nat one of her torterra for protection, and he was on his way to unova proper.

on his journey, nat caught many pokmeon; not all of them bug types, but each invaluable friends and companions. his apartment in castelia city is a little cramped for all of them, especially the larger species, but entralink park has space for urban trainers to keep their pokemon nearby, whether for longterm housing or for short walks and socialization.

it took him weeks of living in the city to gather the courage to challenge castelia's gym, but he eventually did and, mostly thanks to numel's help, he managed to defeat burgh. he expressed his desire to lead the gym someday and burgh laughed, and explained that he wasn't quite ready to retire, but that nat could work at the gym until he was and he'd consider nat as a prodige if he did well. since then, nat has diligently helped care for the gym's spinarak and ariados, challenged trainers on their way to burgh, and gone on journeys to find new species while burgh tended the gym.

during gym matches, he is restricted to only using his bug-type pokemon, but he still keeps his other pokemon close for companionship, unofficial battles, and training.

nat hopes to take over burgh's gym someday, and trains hard to be worthy of the title when burgh retires. as his mentor, burgh works nat hard, often sending him on strange tasks (bring me back a photo of a fire-type pokemon! find me a painter that will collab with me! etc), but they usually end up giving nat skills he didn't expect, so he doesn't mind too much. they're a break from official battles, anyway!

prof. catalpa is the professor in charge of running entralink park nowadays, and keeps several of nat's pokemon on xyr land. whenever nat visits he tries to pick xyr brian for ways to better care for his bug-types and other poke, but xyr usually too busy to chat for long :')

weevil has been a pain in nat's ass since they first crossed paths. as two bug-specialists, they really have a lot in common, but weevil is... not really easy to get along with, lol. in fact, they often forget that they have pokemon at all and end up going hand-to-hand instead, throwing insults and arguing the whole time like children!
