During the early events of the festival, Cindy ends up saving Denzel from being atttacked, feeling indebted to the girl he decided to accompany her to the city to escape the festival and get home - the two then sticking together! As it'd turned out, she was the one to make his military uniform and inadvertently saved his life even before meeting, striking the two with a near inseparable bond. As the two progress through the village and city, they end up falling for eachother, promising to stay together and protect the other both in the death game and if they get out too. Cindy adores Denzel and admires all of the piloting and fighting he'd done, not to mention his dedication to looking out for her! As a result he means a lot to her, the girl hoping that the two end up escaping together and starting a new life with one another like they'd both dreamed of.
