BACKGROUND| |
Born into a Viekan compound to a Viekan mother, Aspyn was one of many cubs indoctrinated and educated into the beliefs and missions of Rweighl and his followers. The war against humankind was neverending, it seemed, and despite his father being human (as most Viekan's were half-human), he was expected to take part in this carnage like everyone else. Somehow, even as a child, Aspyn was spared the hatred and sadism of many of his people. While they viewed humans as a disease who sought to re-opress the Viekan population, young Aspyn could not help seeing how abhorrent and inexcusable the actions of the Vieka have been over the years. He wanted no part in it.
While trying to escape, Aspyn was confronted by his own mother, who could not believe her son would disgrace her in such a way. Conflict ensued, with Aspyn maiming his own shoulder--marring the symbol of his clan--and solidifying the fact to his mother that he was no longer one of them. She warned him to leave, knowing he would surely be killed, and he did so without hesitation. He sought out isolation, finding an untouched area of forest where he built himself a cabin and taught himself to survive in the sometimes unforgiving conditions of the wild. Over the years he became known as a woodsman, building furniture to sell, cutting firewood, and even offering refuge to wayward travelers in the colder seasons.
Most recently, Aspyn found a dying stray on his land in the dead of winter, and pulled him into the warmth of his cabin for rehabilitation. The man would come to be known to him as Cyrus, an exiled Prince; sweeping the Vieka into a storm of politics he couldn't have anticipated.
PERSONALITY| |
For all his upbringing, Aspyn is a kind and courteous man who would find no harm in helping a stranger. He's friendly, perhaps even charming to some, and enjoys the company of others whenever he's graced with such a rarity. Still, for all his warmth, he could be considered a coward who prefers hiding from the ugliness of reality rather than facing it. He fears being drawn back into the Viekan world, or worse, killed for deserting his clan, and does not find the courage to leave his home easily.
Despite his fear, and deep loathing of confrontation, he is also fiercely protective. For those he cares for, he would kill, and he would be killed. Like many Vieka, he sees conflict as a necessary evil at times and, while he avoids it like the plague, holds no guilt over killing a man who would try on his life instead. Part of him views himself as the same ugly monster that Rweigl has turned his people into, but he holds onto the gentler side with something close to desperation.
TRIVIA FACTS| |
- His father was human, and he met the man once in his life.
- The spiraling mark on his shoulder was the symbol of his clan, and tied him to them through magic that allowed others to track and monitor him. He scarred himself to prevent that.
- He's become a skilled woodsmith and has not only built his own cabin, but everything in and outside of it as well.
- Not much of a fighter, any skill Aspyn brings to a fight is simply turning into his feral form and thrashing limbs around.
