gemini (castor & pollux)

once separate twin stars named castor and pollux, gemini is now a combination of their worse halves.

• the right (black/purple) half of gemini is castor and the left (white/black/teal) half is pollux.
• no matter what, their halves are always dichotomous. (see how pollux's face looks here.)
• their halves CAN move disparately (castor can frown and pollux can smile at the same time), but they really only do that to unsettle others.
• they are the way they are because castor nearly died; pollux shared her immortality with him.
• gemini has glowing gaps where their two halves meet. when facing (their) left, the gaps appear teal. when facing right, they're purple. front on, both are visible.
• all of the ribbons and belts are to better keep their halves together.
• the "outside layer" of castor's hair is black, while the underside is purple. pollux's is white and teal respectively.
• the colors are based on one of gemini's birthstones, alexandrite. like this gem, their purples and teals shift in the light.
• their wrist corsages have roses, one of june's birth flowers.
• gemini (the sign) and the magician tarot card are ruled by mercury.
• the god mercury was a psychopomp. gemini is one for starlyngs. more officially, they are a reaper for ouroboros, the source of the universe.
• gemini (in myth) was also able to alternate between olympus and hades after pollux shared his immortality with castor. hence, further afterlife theming.
• the spearhead that nearly killed castor in myth is what makes up the large eye of this gemini's cane.
• the top of their hat is a wormhole. anything can pop out of it at any time, at will or otherwise. gemini usually makes silly things come out of it, though.
• the corners of their top and bottom eyelashes are meant to mimic the gemini symbol. a small line connects them at the ends.
• the gemini symbol is also present on their hat bow and corset.
• the mercury symbol is present atop their tail bow.
• their tail is an alternating braid; they did this to keep their tail halves together, but they can be loose and move independently of each other.
• the skulls on their cane are meant to mimic drama masks.
• their shoes are meant to be short stilts. they can extend and retract at will.
• the left half of every bow has a pointed edge, while the right has a blunt edge.
• in text, castor speaks in purple or black and pollux speaks in teal or white. at the same time, it's a gradient.
