Putting your life on the line just because you can't stand the thought of losing doesn't mean you aren't going to lose. Putting it all on red can never constantly work in your favour. When you finally lose everything, you either become a ghost of who you once were, or take that in stride and move on. Hecate took it as a way to learn and move on. She believes she can get her old life back if she does enough in order to 'make up' for her punishment. Her final prideful act that made her into nothing more than a monster. It's what now pushes her to keep going, even in the face of death.

record
before
Hecate remembers letting a spider live in the corner of her bedroom when she was younger, her parents constantly out working in order to keep them afloat and afford the few luxuries they truly wanted. Watching it weave its web and how it would force flies into submission whenever they fell into its web. Wrapping it up and feeding off of it before leaving it to rot while it goes to hunt for another meal. Such a simple life, not having to worry about anything else. On cold nights where the world felt as though it was against her, she dreamt of becoming one. If it would be easier than the life she currently lives now. Maybe it would be.

Learning to take risks is the purpose of life. Stepping out of your comfort zone. But how many times do you step out of it until you've stepped too far? You can't go back, unable to go back to the life you lived all those years ago. As she grew older and her life changed around her countless times, she wished she could go back to watching that spider. Sometimes trying her hardest to look after it if she knew it hadn't fed in a while. Her parents eventually forcing her out the house the moment they could, and without a job, she married into wealth. Picking a man with the most money in his pockets, sticking close to him and acting like the perfect wife, even if she constantly craved more.
after
It wasn't the life she wanted to live, so she tried her hardest to change it up a bit each and every day. Examining the house when cleaning, finding creatures that lived in the corners and crevices and looking after them even if her husband begged for her to get rid of them. She felt no remorse when he ended up passing, having all the money turn to her while her obsession only festered further. And further. Until it took up the whole house without anyone knowing. No-one was allowed in. Yet without a job and a source of income, her paradise could only last so long. Out of an act of desperation, she took the money she had to gamble it away, sitting in front of a man with the same obsession as her.

The venom of the spider ran through his veins, bleeding through his nails each time they tapped against the table in front of the two of them. The venom spat from his lips each time he spoke, each time he reminded her that money wasn't going to be enough to save her. Money wouldn't send her to paradise, send her to the life of looking after these creatures that lived such simple lives - the life she dreamt of living even as an adult. Staring the man in the eyes, she would rest a hand on her chest, thinking only for a split second before making that decision. The decision that would ruin her life, solely because she was ever so desperate for what she wanted.

Putting her entire life on the line, she lost it all. Putting her gamble on the wrong cards and staring at him as his cackle would fill the room. The rest of that night remains as nothing more than a sick blur, but Hecate remembers waking up back in her house, a letter telling her that it would no longer be in her possession at the end of the week, and a smaller note handwritten just for her. A reminder that she lost. She lost, but out of pity, was given what she wanted. 'A simple life.' 'The life a spider lives.'

Spiders squirmed under her skin and made up her entire being. Her skin, too, was made up of tiny spiders mingling with one another, holding her body together, spreading out and dancing around the room whenever she so wished. A mass of arachnids housing one brain. Kicked out the one place she could have called home, she wanders with revenge tainting her lips, begging to reclaim what she 'deserves.'

Even after everything, she sees potential in Ah-choo, to the point where she's looking after him like she's his mother. He clearly doesn't mind.

It's a complicated relationship. She pushes him in the right direction yet tugs on the leash if he dares to step out of line. It's hard to tame the beast.
