from what strange land do you hail?
Ayelah (aa-YEH-la) is Xander's long-distance gf he met at a nearby small ComicCon equivalent.
She's a well-loved DM in her hometown, which she describes as city twice the size of Telldale, about 2 hours drive over the mountains. Queer organizer. Dresses femme punk, basically embodies Punk. Is a makeup artist, teaches Xandra's theater kids when she's around Telldale.
Her car is a very flashy junker that works well. Exact look doesn't matter, just has to be Colorful and Almost Road Unsafe.
SKILLS
Mechanica self taught car mechanic, Ayelah is extremely skilled at diagnosing, fixing, and making vehicles from semi-trucks to bikes work again even when they don't want to. This ability is partially learned skill, and partially her subconscious enchanting of the vehicles she works on with an endurance charm.
PlantsLike her mother, Ayelah has an affinity for plants. Unlike her mother, she doesn't make potions or art with them, she just has an affinity for magically influencing them to grow bigger, healthier, and faster. Her garden patch is well-warded against rot, mold, and insects that would eat too much of the plant. All of the spells that she knows to achieve that took her forever to learn, so she's very proud of her little garden.
From a young age, Ayelah knew she was different from her peers. Magic was never instinctive, and her ears were human. Her mom had had a dalliance with a human across the mountains. This made Ayelah and her mom somewhat like social apriahs, but their city is big enough that it's not a huge issue for her mom to find buyers for her living plant art and potions. Ayelah, though, was left with no close friends as she couldn't hide her human-ness. Until she began forcefully making friends as a teenager - with the power of endless optimism and the fortitude to ignore all the snide remarks, Ayelah found herself with a decent enough friends group that she could finally introduce human games to!
Due to her earlier social exclusion, Ayelah had a deep curiosity about the humans across the mountains. From the stories her mom told, they weren't able to listen to the magic, or knew that there was magic to begin with. Once she was old enough that her mom approved of her going off an her own, she scavenged an abandoned human vehicle, made it functional through trial and error, and off-roaded her way through the valleys to a small village south of Telldale. From there, she learned and made human friends who couldn't tell she was part-elf. She sneakily attended high school with some invisibility potions, and learned how little history humans are taught. She found some after-school clubs and joined them, learning about human media and games like anime and D&D. She even aquired a phone to be able to talk with her human friends when on this side of the mountain range!
So by the time Ayelah is seventeen, she's had three years of human friends and two of having hometown friends. And one year of knowing Xander, after meeting him at a convention her human friends dragged her to in the closest human big city.
He still doesn't know she's from the other sied of the mountains.
Boyfriend! He likes sending her technology she doesn't know what to do with, as electrionic connections can't cross the mountain range... yet. The magical wards stop all transmissiable signals. Right now she keeps his gifted computer in Rollin Ska so she can drive it to the ward border and connect with him semi-frequently.
Human friend and sister to Ayelah's boyfriend, Xandra is always curious about the fabric that Ayelah's clothes are made of. It's not quite cotton, but also not quite anything else. Ayelah's become Xandra's magic-touched fabric supplier. She tells Xandra it's from a special plant her mother cultivates, which isn's completely false, but also leaves out the big part of how shimmervine is impossible to cultivate without magic.
