History

Early Life

Ike's mother hailed from a noble family of knights and warriors. Ike was concieved from an affair with an unknown elf, and the circumstances surrounding her relationship with society, her husband, and the affair led to the pregnancy being hidden and Ike left at an orphanage once he was born.

The orphanage was sponsored by a local lord, who insisted upon the children being taught manners and given a basic education. Ike never knew who his parents were, and was not adopted.

Prior to puberty, Ike was considered to be a girl, and he cared little about the distinction at the time. During puberty, however, his matrons insisted upon more ladylike behavior, resulting in some dispute with his caretakers. Once it was realized however, that his voice was deepening and he was growing facial hair, his caretakers gave up and let him identify how he pleased. He began to bind his chest and go by Ike rather than Ikane'mar, though he does not view the name as particularly feminine.

At around eleven or twelve years old, Ike nearly drowned in the nearby lake, being pushed in by one of the other children and saved by a guard who happened to witness it. This led to a phobia of deep water, with Ike never learning to swim. He is ill at ease within sight of large bodies of water, and boat trips make him incredibly anxious and sick with fear.

As he was never adopted, Ike was encouraged to join the military, showing promise in his three years of public service as a teenager.

Military Service

Ike continued to serve in the military for more than two hundred years, through a corrupt prince, rebellions, skirmishes, and plague. His long and exceptional service earned him a variety of benefits- Increased pay for a set number of years and offers of property, promotions, and titles. Ike refused all benefits save for pay, wanting only to continue serving his country and protecting the people of Rammelhardt.
With the relative peace- At least between their neighbors- Ike was stationed wherever he was needed, primarily aiding the local guard.

Personal Life

As an adult, Ike struggled somewhat with his rare human and elven heritage. With elves often remaining separate from humans- Considering them inferior- He remained among humans, who likewise mistook him for a full-blooded elf and expected the strange or condescending behavior. His rugged but honorable and courageous demeanor- As well as his strangeness as a half-elf- Attracted others, but few stayed for long. Ike never had the chance to bond with someone enough to consider settling and starting a family, and the idea of either outliving his partner and children, or dying early due to his work as a guard made him melancholic.

He eventually gave up entirely on the endeavor, deciding it wasn't worth inflicting that anxiety and his own baggage on someone else for the long-term. This extended to personal relationships at large, with Ike remaining somewhat detatched and constantly reminded of the transient and fleeting nature of relationships.
