Born with bright red hair that made people fear her as a bad omen. Her family ran an herbalist where she worked at. She knows a lot about medicine and feels fulfilled being able to help others.

One evening when she was going into the mountain to pick herbs, she was attacked by a demon that was on the way to the town. She was saved by Kanae, but her leg was severely injured. Kanae took her back to the village, but they told her to leave, believing she was responsible for the demon attack. Kaede feels completely lost and alone when Kanae invites her to join the Demon Slaying Corp as a medic. Taking her back to the Butterfly Mansion, she teaches her about demons and what is effective against them and treatments.

Kaede is extremely grateful and indebt to Kanae and her sister. She decides to dedicate her life to helping those who fight demons to protect everyone.

She has slow mobility as her leg has some nerve damage. This is why she couldn't be a slayer herself. .

Kaede is very kind but can be forceful if someone is putting up a fuss against their treatment. She never judges someone by appearances due to her past. She is very self conscious about her red hair. She was told she would never be able to get married due to no man wanting a cursed woman with hair the colour of blood.

She has a very cute face and looks younger than she is, but she can be very scary as well.

She was named after a maple tree as her hair was the colour of a red maple leaf..

Colours became faded and dull to Sanemi after killing his mother, Kaede’s red hair being as vibrant as it is, was something Sanemi could see clearly, to him it was so beautiful he couldn’t help but stare.

Fell in love with Sanemi when she first met him and saw him relax when Hanae treated him. His gentle expression made her heart stir.

Kaede kept her feelings silent seeing that Sanemi had some sort of feelings for Hanae, and even after her death Kaede never planned to tell him how she felt.

Kaede became close with Genya since he would come for regular checkups, the two talk about Sanemi a lot. About how he was as a big brother for Genya before their family was killed, and about Kaede’s feelings for him. Genya kept encouraging her to tell him, he wanted his brother to be happy. Kaede insisted he didn’t return her feelings, that he seemed a bit annoyed by her, even if he was kind to her outside of their quarrelling. Genya says his brother is probably dense when it comes to love and won’t likely notice unless she says something.
