Profile

Celandine Lochland
The Dappled Dreamer

Race
Forest Gnome
Gender
Female (She/Her)
Age
Around 200
Deity
Silvanus
Background
Guild Artisan
Class
Druid (Circle of the Moon)

A druid and landscape painter who lived her life traveling across Faerûn prior to the Nautiloid.

Someone who tries her best to follow her heart, and will fight tooth and nail for her friends and loved ones... no matter what.

Personality
Friend to Most, Foe to Few

A warm-hearted and hopeful soul at her very heart, but fully capable of being a bit snarky and enjoys cracking jokes. Always grateful for a non-violent solution... though there are things even she can't abide by, and she's certainly no pushover.

She's quite friendly to those who are friendly to her, and she tries to remain personable even to those who are rude unless boundaries are crossed. She's decidedly even more approachable to beasts and animals, however; as a follower of Silvanus, she's extremely in tune with nature and often finds herself more comfortable in the company of such creatures.

Strength - 10
Dexterity - 12
Constitution - 14
Intelligence - 17
Wisdom - 17
Charisma - 13

  • She has musical instrument proficiency, and can play many things, though her fiddle is her preferred choice.
  • While she's quite skilled with painting landscapes and nature, she's rather poor at depicting people and animals. She often spends any free time sketching her companions in camp to practice, though she tends to keep these to herself. She definitely doesn't want Astarion to sneak a peek at these early attempts; she wants his first time seeing his face in all these years to be perfect.
  • She has a tendency to Wild Shape just for fun; her favorite forms are cat (a chunky, fluffy orange cat) and bear (a sun bear). She often finds joy in the company of talking to animals rather than people, and will always comfort and defend any animals she finds.
  • She is a very skilled alchemist, having learned much about gathering ingredients and crafting during her years and years of traveling.
  • She staunchly refuses to use any Illithid Powers, and she isn't fond of when others use them.
  • She has a total of three scars on her face. Her most prominent one across her right cheek and nose is obvious, but she also has two lighter ones: one above her right eye, and one at the lower left edge of her lip!
  • Her earrings are studs made from bird skulls, and she also has a silver barbell piercing in her right ear.
Story
A Tale Most Telling

Background

Celandine was born in a hidden village of forest gnomes; her race is well-known for their particularly small stature and their timid and reclusive nature, even among other gnome subraces. She grew up with an inate desire for creation and the arts, pursuing this interest both in her life path as a druid and in her work as a painter and musician. However, she always yearned for more than what the borders of her home would allow her to experience; she always believed that her place was out among the splendors of the world, and she wanted more than anything the opportunity to capture as many of life's scenes on canvas as possible.

This being the case, she made the choice to leave her birthplace once she became of age, and she had been traveling ever since. She found herself pleased with the wealth of beauty and excitement that the outside world had to offer, but her general nature and lack of others taking her entirely seriously made it quite difficult for her to make any lasting companions. She found her companionship in the creatures of Faerûn's wilds instead, often only traveling into settlements in order to sell her paintings and buy necessary goods and materials to make ends meet. This wouldn't change for quite some time...

Relationships
Threads of Fate and Ties that Bind

Portrait_Astarion.png

romantic interest

One wouldn't think that a blade to the throat, or teeth through one's skin, would be ideal ways for two people to meet and understand one another... and yet somehow, these two have managed. Celandine knew from the start that something was different about Astarion, and her biggest reaction to finding out his vampiric nature was simply relief to finally know what that 'something different' was.

While the two occassionally butt heads when it comes to Celandine's open kindness and acts of charity, they do both have an affinity for non-violent ends to conflict through deception or persuasion, so it balances out in that regard. Her occassional bouts of snark also lend themselves well to interesting conversation between the two of them.

The two have pursued a physical relationship since the party with the tieflings, but she hopes for it to become something more. She's taking things at his pace, and doing all she can to support him in his pursuit of freedom from Cazador.

Portrait_Halsin.png

kindred spirit

Celandine and Halsin got along swimmingly from the moment they first met in the worg pens of the goblin camp. Their shared embrace of the Oakfather's teachings and way of life made them understand one another immediately, and she was all too happy to provide assistance in bringing down the camp's leaders in order to ensure the Emerald Grove's protection.

She hopes to continue assisting him in his efforts to help nature heal and find balance, planning to do all that she can to lift the Shadow Curse.

Portrait_Karlach.png

companion

When first encountering Karlach alongside the Blade of Frontiers, Celandine was quick to realize that she wasn't what she was told she would be - she met not a demon, but simply a fellow soul hoping to find freedom and simple pleasure after being denied it for so long. She was happy to bring her along, after quelling the tension between her and Wyll.

While she is a far more excitable presence, which can intimidate Celandine just a bit, she knows that the tiefling is someone that can ultimately be counted on. She plans to do everything in her power to help repair her Infernal Engine, both to keep her safe and to make sure she can give her a hug as soon as possible.

Portrait_Wyll.png

companion

Someone as well-travelled as Celandine definitely heard tell of the Blade of Frontiers and his exploits many times, but she was surprised to be able to meet the legend face-to-face. However, she has come to find that the man behind the legend is even more interesting than she'd thought he may be at first glance.

The two are both individuals that want to ultimately help those around them if they can, so they get along well. Even when he is punished with the appearance of a devil at his patron's hand, she doesn't think less of him and understands why he'd made the pact in the first place. She does, however, hope to free him of it if at all possible.

Portrait_Lae%27zel.png

companion

Celandine had heard many a tale of Githyanki in her time, but never had the pleasure of meeting any in person until Lae'zel. To say the two had a contentious relationship to start would be an understatement, but she always took her more assertive and aggressive personality in stride as part of her teachings and culture. She always offers the opportunity for Lae'zel to speak her mind, though she will carefully redirect her ire and hostility if needed.

She was all too willing to find the crèche, hopeful to perhaps find a solution to the tadpole problem there... she hadn't expected to nearly be killed in the process, however, neither by the Zaith'isk nor Vlaakith herself. She's supportive in Lae'zel's new questioning of her queen, and in her exploration of her place in the world outside her influence.

Portrait_Gale.png

companion

To say Celandine was shocked to find an Ancient Sigil Circle with a man's hand sticking out of it would be quite the understatement, but it would be ridiculous to think she'd do anything other than help free the poor soul the hand belonged to. Such was the initial meeting between her and the Wizard of Waterdeep.

As an appreciator of knowledge and magic, and a lover of lore and literature, she and Gale get along exceedingly well. She doesn't mind listening when he goes on his long-winded explanations and anecdotes, finding it all fascinating. The two also sometimes pursue their creative pursuits in a parallel fashion, him with his poetry and her with her paintings.

She's hopeful that they'll be able to find a way to deal with the Netherese orb in his chest... one that doesn't involve him detonating it, killing himself and leveling a city.

Portrait_Shadowheart.png

companion

Even in the hectic scramble to escape the Nautiloid, Celandine had no interest in leaving anyone behind if she could help it. So when she noticed Shadowheart trapped in a pod on the ship, she made sure to free her, even despite Lae'zel's insistence they leave her behind. They have been companions ever since.

She has never begrudged Shadowheart's belief in Shar, though has many inklings that there is far more to her story than meets the eye - more than she is allowed to remember. She's happy to allow Shadowheart to open up at her own pace, and is hopeful that the truth can be uncovered in due time.

She also hopes to gift her a night orchid and teach her to swim, at the earliest convenience.

Portrait_Scratch.png

goodest boy

Celandine took great pity on Scratch the moment she happened upon him, loyal as ever remaining by his deceased master's side, certain he would soon wake. She gently offered the opportunity to find their camp, should his master remain at rest, and he took her up on the offer.

She has since made sure that even without the company of his former master, he never feels unloved or uncared for. She always keeps his ball on hand, ready and willing to play fetch anytime.
