My partner's character from a long-dead D&D campaign:

Age: 47 at death, ~347 during campaign

Race: Undead (formerly Human)

Class: Swashbuckler

Sign: The Skull

Background: Edward Euxine was a legendary pirate captain, feared and revered across the continent, inspiring numerous tales of his adventures, each one more impossible than the last and only slightly exaggerated from reality.

Frank Smith was a deckhand. He left his wife and child behind in the Kingdom of Whispers and departed on a cargo ship that promptly struck ice and sank, causing all of its crew to either drown or freeze to death in the frigid northern ocean. Coincidentally, his remains came to rest awfully near the wreckage of Captain Euxine's ship. Some 300 years later, a necromancer raised the frozen carcasses of the famed Euxine pirates from the ocean floor.....along with Frank.

When their necromancer master froze to death (almost immediately after raising the crew), Frank, believing himself to be Edward Euxine, took charge of "his" crew, and led them across the frozen ocean to the slightly less frozen land.

Upon arriving in civilization, the crew realized that hundreds of years had passed since their final voyage, and all of their family, friends, and loved ones were surely dead. Most of the undead returned to the ocean, went berserk and wandered off, or killed themselves out of grief. "Ed" was unable to fully process this revelation, lest he, too, lose what little remained of his sanity, so he simply kept walking, eventually encountering and integrating into a group of settlers.

After helping them establish a rudimentary settlement, he was approached by an agent of the Kingdom of Whispers, who had an interesting proposition for him: allow her to take his name and position, and she would return him to his homeland.

He agreed, and presumably returned to the Kingdom of Whispers, however his ultimate fate remains unknown....

Personality: exactly what you would expect of a boastful, legendary pirate captain. WHY WOULD THIS BE AN ARTIFICIAL MASK THAT HE WEARS AROUND HIS FRIENDS, HE HAS NO REASON TO BE SEVERELY DEPRESSED, EVERY DAY IS A GOOD DAY FOR CAPTAIN ED.

Wardrobe: Coats/parkas with fur-lined hoods that he can close tightly around his face (or lack thereof). A cursed cloak of resistance, which sets him on fire.

Inventory: Feather Token (Anchor), Folding Boat
