Kristof Van Der Berg

Kristof is a quiet and unusual man who prefers to keep to himself, his passion about history and his line of work. Despite this, he's quite lazy and gives himself more obligations to force himself out of his bad habits. It's usually hard for him to form bonds with people, as his conversation is short, and his humor strange. He purposefully keeps himself closed off from others. His mother is simultaneously a source of terror and sympathy for him. 

Kristof's depiction in most places relies on his species - the Ninetales. The core of his monotonous and aloof attitude comes from his fear of growing attached to those he will outlive, as typically, Ninetales are said to have a lifespan of 1000 years. In places where this is not the case, his fear is purely derived from his mother's madness over losing her husband and is less pronounced. In all versions of his story, he ends up acting out severely once his mother's overbearing arms let him go. He has a tendency toward alcohol, as it relaxes his outer shell and allows him to act more amiably. He refuses to pursue professional help.
