Scarlet and Starry are two sides of the same coin. The both of them met in their early school days and quickly became close friends. They got together when Starry moved to Ponyville from Canterlot.
Glimmershy and Starry know each other from their later days of schooling. When Starry moved to Ponyville from Canterlot taking Scarlet with her Glimmer took the chance to move with them.
Lovebug also known as Bug met Starry when Starry and Scarlet were visting the Crystal empire with their friend Glimmer. Bug was out on the town and noticed Starry painting the Crystal Castle. Bug liked Starry's painting and the two bonded over a shared love of the arts.
