  • Song: Gold
  • Status: Unknown
  • Notes: This gem hides her face as it's the only thing that gives away the fact that she's not real gold.
  • The song "Gold" has a lot of funeral imagery so I wanted to give her one of those widow's veils and since I knew I wanted her to be Pyrite pretending to be Gold.
  • I kinda viewed her as a gem that started at a low station in life but she slowly worked up by tricking people into believing that she was Gold (instead of pyrite) and was able to build a small court of her own gems but always having to keep up a facade since it was discovered she wasn't real Gold she'd lose everything she built for herself and her court.
  • I did have a small idea that Pyrite was one of the few gems similar to the original concept for Larimar where her eyes are black where they normally would be white (the Sclera) and a gold color for puppies.
  • But normal Gold gems have stander white Sclera.
  • When she was younger she could have use variations of sun glasses to hide them but as she got higher in position in her life she became fearful of someone seeing threw the sunglasses or them falling off so she took to wearing the veiled hat.
  • If confronted by a Gem who wants her to raise her veil, I imagine Pyrite has a story in place that her face was badly damaged in an accident which took the life of Pyrite (for people might wonder why Pyrite suddenly vanished) and does not wish to offend the Diamonds with her unsightly-looking face.

Pyrite Gold is a Metallic Gem but is not as pure as regular Gold. She was a member of Yellow Diamond's court and served Gold as a servant and companion. Pyrite Gold and Original Gold were best friends, with Pyrite being the one who kept Gold on track. Unfortunately, no matter how much good Pyrite did for her, only Gold would receive a reward from their Diamond. Pyrite tried not to let this bother her, but she could not help but be envious. The final straw comes when the two Gems learn that Yellow Diamond plans to reward Gold with leadership of a colony and a court of her own. Pyrite would be happy for her friend, but she is furious because Gold basically did nothing but party while Pyrite figured out what the problem was and presented a solution that ended up working. And yet it is Gold who gets all the credit and glory.

A thought then comes into her mind. Gold could be rather irresponsible and it was highly doubtful that she could do a good job running a colony, much less be in charge of a whole court of Gems. Pyrite Gold could do a better job…perhaps she would do a better job.

During the banquet that is being held in Gold’s honor, Pyrite approaches her friend and is able to get Gold to go somewhere that is private. The Metallic has no idea of her friend’s intentions and does not see the attack coming. Pyrite had considered shattering Gold in order to ensure that the secret would never be revealed, but no matter how much resentment she held towards her former friend, Pyrite could not destroy her for good. Instead, she poofs Gold and then bubbles her gemstone. Pyrite hides it and returns to the party, telling the guests that Gold has had something unexpected come up, but that everything is fine and they should keep enjoying themselves.

That is the last time any Gem sees Gold or Pyrite Gold in her true form.

Pyrite Gold quickly takes on the identity of Gold and uses special glasses to hide her eyes. The story she spins is this. Gold and Pyrite had gone on a walk together in the garden and were attacked by some Gems. Gold was damaged (though her Gem is left uncracked) while Pyrite was shattered. Pyrite explains that the damage to Gold was her eyes and such a sight need not be presented to the Diamonds.

Yellow Diamond seems to accept this and Pyrite is given the go ahead to board the ship that will take her to her new home. During the trip through space, Gold’s gemstone is accidentally ejected. Pyrite only finds this out later and while she mourns the loss of her friend, Pyrite is also relieved as now her future is secured.

When the ship lands on the planet, Pyrite Gold emerges wearing a hat with a veil. She introduces herself as Gold and settles into her new position.

Pyrite Gold proves to be a fair ruler who gives all the Gems under her care a chance to pursue their dreams. Most of her Court adore her, with a handful of Gems being close enough to know her secret identity.

Pyrite’s world is complete…and yet she often thinks about Gold. She wonders if she had made the right choice, and if Gold’s gemstone is still floating out in space or has it found a place to land. She wonders if her secret is truly safe or is it just a matter of time before somebody reveals it to the world.

Much like Gold had done all those decades before, Pyrite Gold does not see the attack. In the blink of an eye, she has been poofed and loses her position as leader of this court and colony. One of her guards is able to collect her gemstone and Pyrite reforms on a ship that is taking her away. She weeps when she hears what has happened, not just to herself but to those who tried to defend her against the Gem who has stolen her position.

She then makes a decision and tosses away her hat and veil. She takes a deep breath, then contacts Yellow Diamond. Yellow is surprised to see Pyrite, then demands to know where Gold is and how dare a lowly servant contact her. Pyrite Gold tells Yellow the truth. That she had poofed Gold a long time ago and took her place.

Yellow Diamond pauses when she hears this confession, then grudgingly compliments Pyrite on a job well done. Pyrite Gold accepts it and then asks for help, but Yellow refuses. Homeworld has bigger things on its mind and since Pyrite had gotten this colony through lies and brute force, then surely she can figure out a solution. Yellow Diamond then ends the call and Pyrite is left feeling helpless.

The ship finally comes to Earth and Pyrite Gold meets the Crystal Gems (Steven has already left to find himself at this point). She is allowed to stay in Little Homeworld, but feel uncomfortable.

Then one day there is a call…it is Steven Universe and he is calling from some place whose name Pyrite has already forgotten. He is not alone. He is with another person who is clearly a Gem and she is familiar. Time (or maybe personal preference) has changed her appearance, but Pyrite knows it is she.

Her old friend…

Gold.
