“The best way of keeping a secret is to pretend there isn't one.”

Nellie never really acted as young as she was. In fact, most of the time, she was scared and silent. If she hadn't let a few words slip as a baby, her parents would have thought her mute. She regarded her siblings with a strange look in her eye, almost as if she knew what was going to happen. On the day Kevin snapped, she wasn't paniked like the rest of the household. Instead, she offered him what little comfort she could in her last moments, as if she could see under the rage. In truth, Nellie was not as unaffected by the Fermented Mentality that doomed her brother and sister as she let on. She was born a brighteye, giving her special powers, but this collided with the condition. So, where the others clicked into a murderous rage, her eyes opened, allowing her to see much more than she needed to know. She truly believed that there was nothing she could do to alter fate into a better path, so he held her tongue and took it to her grave.

In the afterlife, she would watch her brother rampage, coming down, silent and invisible, from time to time to nudge him on when he was alone and weak. She also influenced a few key headaches that effected his path. Of course, she kept these interations to a minimal, as she didn't believe it was her place to change him. Mostly, she would flicker through his rare dreams, which only led him to be further confused.
