Found as he was by the Council when young, he was taken in with little more than a name. Under the guiding eye of a Master whose opinions of the Council differed, it was at a young age this powerless boy was learning to become a powerful man with more open views. Seemingly docile, Kadann was anything but as he went about mastering what the Council was set on teaching him. Naturally adept, he excelled and reverently read every possible book as if it might be his last. There was much hope for him and, in due time, he no longer needed a Master. Regardless of his training and knowledge though, Kadann still found himself gently, but resolutely deviating.

Adhering to a code that he found to be growing obsolete and allowing complicity, proof of the Codes flaws were soon shown. It left Kadann with little choice but to act. With the blessing of his former Master he defied the Code, but found his Master exiled for such approval soon after. Lives, countless families and children, had been saved though. That was all that mattered to him.

Saved from the Councils wrath only by those he had saved and the title they had given him, he took on a more quiet demeanor to evade suspicion and further disapproval from those meant to be his fellow brothers and sisters. Rebellious decisions and thoughts were kept only to himself, and he did as he was bade when it came to helping those younger than him pursue the path that he had taken himself long ago.

Try as he might to keep deviant thoughts and beliefs to himself, there was one he slowly came to understand might benefit from hearing such things. She was full of potential, spirited and bright, but as time went he could see the heaviness in her bones that the Council placed there. Such an end as this -a lifetime in the Council- was not something he believed was right for her.

There was more beyond all of this; there was more for her. Had it been possible, that things within the Council could be made different, Kadann would have done his best to make it so (and he tried, oh, how he tried). Things are never that easy though.

A failure they came to call it—called her. Kadann knew better, of course, and he knows that he felt anything but failure as she slipped away during the night. There was no sense of such a thing whatsoever, and the loneliness he would come to feel, the ache within his chest, would never make him regret anything. Regardless of where life now took her, it was her's to freely follow. But for him, such opportunities were long gone.

The rain feels like shrapnel and the stars taste like old blood, and the ringing in his ears sounds like a grenade. He remembers only frayed lungs hacked blue and cold bones in his bed.
