Profile

A young, irrepressibly optimistic otterfolk adventurer.

His species counts itself among the Second-Awoken, the mysterious group of unfallen creatures supposedly living in idyllic prosperity beyond the impassible border sector that is the Ettinsdragon's Territory. His people's homeworld is situated on the wrong side of that divide, however, located within a wild and dangerous region of space infested by kongguai monsters and the malicious relics of celestial wars of legend. Life is difficult, possible only through the protection afforded by a mystical shield erected long ago by powerful lishuai—a shield whose powerful sustaining wards have begun to fail.

While he was still a young boy, the historians of his clan unearthed an ancient starship, a vessel alluded to in cryptic verse found within sacred texts. Rather than sending the boy to the capital to be sacrificed so his blood could fuel the great shield, as was custom and obligation for every clan on his world, his clan poured all of their resources towards funding a great expedition, a desperate gambit through which he might hopefully find some means of salvation for his people among the faraway stars. For their perceived impertinence his clan suffered dearly, but the ship was brought back online and successfully launched into the void, with him at its helm.

In the subsequent years he has made many friends among the peoples of the worlds he's visited, some of which have been unlikely allies. Others have joined his crew, their own dreams and ambitions added to his own. He has come to see his eventual goal as forging enough alliances so that he might one day be strong enough to vanquish the demonic abomination menacing his home and, in doing so, reopen an ancient trade route that has lain dormant for millennia. He dreams of a triumphant return home, alongside his newfound friends, and one day in the distant future perhaps even the opportunity to pierce the great veil and reunite his people with the rest of their kind.

He is, as his people tend to be, skilled at diplomacy and quite characteristic, although his irreverence has threatened to get him in trouble on many an occasion. His detractors call him naive, and to their credit there are some lessons he has had to learn the (very) hard way. Yet he stubbornly holds on to hope, for something within his very nature refuses to yield to despair no matter how bad things get. Above all, he can't bear to turn down any request for help he might encounter during his journeys; as his stature has grown he has gone from being mocked as an inveterate do-gooder to being celebrated as a folk hero, a modern-day paladin of sorts (although no celestial lends him their aid).

While not as strong as, say, the gwemoueb hweba or atrauéti, he is still quite formidable in a fight. His natural grace, facility with the supernatural powers of liliu, and proficiency with many types of weapons means he always has whatever he needs to defend himself or finish off a monstrosity.
