ALYIN

the quietus harbinger

ABOUT

"I don't fight for myself, or for others. I fight, to delete the Anti-Viruses from history."

NAME Alyin
AGE 14 Cycles (24 yrs.)
GENDER Agender (they/them)
SPECIES Virtual
ALIGNMENT / FORCE Virus
DIVISION Specialization
RANK [Specs.] Proxy
HEX CODE #d82920
CORRUPTION 93%
DESIGNER Tianoi

A young Virus Proxy in the Specialization force. It's a wonder how this Virtual became a Proxy, is without a fault, or even alive; their corruption levels are amongst the highest seen. Nonetheless, they are an extremely capable fighter notoriously known for damaging the Cores of Anti-Viruses.

Even though they have been promoted to Proxy, they seemingly don't do whatever a 'normal' Proxy should do, always sulking around and practicing their weapon. Though a rumour quickly spread about how they are just an empty shell for destroying and killing Anti-Viruses, they do, in fact, have a conscience; if it's for the good of the Viruses and Yin, they will stop at nothing to achieve the goal that is given to them.

[Loyalty] Even despite the rumours that float around regarding Alyin, they are a very loyal person to Yin and Viruses in general, going great lengths to achieve their goals. However, when it comes to individuals, it's a bit arbitrary and largely depends on whether or not they like being in your company. If they don't, they'd typically leave you alone; if they do, then they may actually talk to you (shocking ikr) but only if you bother to talk to them first.

[Confidence] It's not usually displayed on their face, but in combat, it can be clearly seen. As they are extremely skilled in combat, it channels into the feared confidence they own that allows them to defeat most enemies.

[Adaptation] Easily able to adapt to numerous situations whether in combat or in normal, non-combat, situations. If something is new and unfamilliar, they try to get a grasp of it as much as possible and learn how to counter it; it's also coupled with fast learning skills.

[Impassive] Extremely hard to get a true reaction from them out of combat. It's not exactly a good thing or a bad thing - at least when they're lying they can lie with a straight face. Or if someone or something tries to provoke them, they won't allow their feelings to swell up and take control of them.

[Erratic] They don't do things in a particular way, just whatever fits their mood currently or depending on what they're up against. It goes hand in hand with [Adaptation].

[Reliable] You can always rely on them for missions or doing work. It's tied in with their loyalty that never falters whenever it's for the good of Yin or the Viruses. Even saying 'it's for Yin' or 'it's for [name]' will be enough to convince them to do it. Although it does come in with some disadvantages, such as some combatants who'd always ask for help...

[Reckless] Doesn't care about teammates or anything of that sort, and usually runs in themselves to clean up the mess. Even if it hurts their teammates, as long as the only thing in front of them are defeated Anti-Viruses, it's all that matters.

[Hostile] If you make any move that may provoke them, they'd pay you back thousandfold. Thought that little joke was funny? What might be not so funny will be what happens when you get assigned to the same team as them. Just as long as you don't try to play any jokes on them, you'd be fine.

[Sadistic] Imagine a scenario in which you are an Anti-Virus, and you're fighting with Alyin for control of a Data Access Point. You watch as all your teammates are forced to regenerate, their Cores slightly damaged after the fight. Then they decide to torture you for fun, because it makes them happy. They'd tell you about how you failed your team, how everyone is gone because of you. It's unpleasant; even ally Viruses were creeped out.

Other traits - even though they appear indifferent on a regular basis, they're actually a soft little ball of floof inside and doesn't hesitate to try and help others. That little ball of floof gets spiky when something threatens their friends or who they value. It can be thought similar to dissociative identity disorder; normal indifferent and loyal side, altered sadistic and hostile side. With friends, they are somewhat possessive, preferring to have their eyes on everything they're currently doing.

BIOGRAPHY

TL;DR

  • Cycle 236 - Born to two unnamed Virus-aligned parents. Got high corruption because of a sort of incompatability.
  • Cycle 238 - Was sent to Virus HQ for training. Met Osial and became friends. They watched combat training together.
  • Cycle 239 - Neophyte age. They coded their first weapon, XII (later Lux Sanguine Purpureo), and trained really hard. Most of their time was occupied by training so they didn't have as much time to talk with Osial.
  • Cycle 242 - Officially becomes an Initiate. During their first battle, they critically injured an Anti-Virus' core, but faced no repurcussions due to being an initiate. They didn't feel bad about it, instead, it's what they deserved.
  • Cycle 246 - Osial disappears. This causes Alyin to blame the Anti-Viruses for their disappearance, and starts to actively target cores. [sidenote: Osial was recovered in cycle 247]
  • Cycle 248 - Promoted to Veteran. Despite being of higher rank, they faced harsh consequences for targetting cores, and always had to remain in HQ and be supervised by a responsible individual.
  • Cycle 249 - Promoted to Proxy. Immediately following their promotion, they deleted an Anti-Virus, causing their new rank to be taken away, and was unable do anything or code. During this cycle, Alyin was promoted on and off of Proxy.
  • Cycle 250 - Early in the cycle, Yin realized it's a repeat of Ren, and thus, on their 6th promotion, declared that their rank is unable to be removed. Virus HQ Incursion happens later but please scroll below for that.

THE BEGINNING.

Alyin was born to two unnamed Virus-aligned parents in Cycle 236; while they were created, however, an incompatibility had occured, resulting in an offspring that developped extremely high corruption levels. Despite that, their parents loved them anyway, and in cycle 238, they were brought to Virus HQ for training.

While they were there, Alyin had met a virtual of the same age: Osial. Every time they spent their hours watching combat training, they'd always find Osial there with them. Designing a cool weapon, even doing something dumb, they were always there. That said, they quickly became close friends, with Alyin protecting Osial if others had mocked them for their neutrality.

At cycle 239, they became a neophyte. As they watched the combat practice from before, they possessed a sense for using weapons, especially one of their own making. It was a physical sword they had named XII (later Lux Sanguine Purpureo), and along with it, they were recommended to Specialization. They were trained there by one of the Proxies. During their time as a neophyte, they saw Osial struggle to keep progressing through the path of weapons; Alyin had felt upset about it, but with most if not all their time spent training, they were unable to help in any way. Near the middle of cycle 242, they had officially become an Initiate for the Specs. Division.

...It was their first battle, and they've already broken a law. They were perhaps too excited to fight, and as such, had critically injured an Anti-Virus' core. The other members of the team watched as Alyin's weapon plunged right next to it, and as they died, numerous faults had appeared. As an initiate in their first battle, it was pardoned to the disliking of many. However, they didn't feel bad, as others remarked when asking Alyin about it. It's what they deserved for trying to go against me.

Cycle 246. Cycle 246, the cycle they will forever hate. By that time, they were already a combatant. As Alyin and Osial were part of the same division, they were usually put on different teams; no one needs the same person twice, right? But after completing the mission, Alyin returned, already expecting Osial to be back. But they weren't. They kept waiting for them to come back. Day after day, night after night. But they never did. The proxies had checked the mission logs, and a day later, an announcement sprang up. All Viruses belonging to [ redacted ]'s team have disappeared. A recovery mission will be soon sent out. What? ... Impossible. They themself came on the rescue mission, however, only the team leader was found. Everyone else had integrated themselves into the System somehow, and it was near impossible to rescue them. The data point was glowing a bright cyan, signalling the presence of pure code.

It's all the Anti-Viruses' fault. It's all their fault. It's all their fault. It's all their fault! IT'S ALL THEIR FAULT! As weeks passed from the rescue mission, deemed a failure, they couldn't do anything. One of their only friends had disappeared, never to be seen again. And they even promised that they'd come back! What a lie, a cruel joke played on man! That's when it started to get out of hand. They fought so ferociously against the Anti-Viruses, always targetting for the core. This resulted in many battles ending in damaged cores for both sides, and Alyin walking away as if nothing had ever happened. A dark fire had bloomed amidst their fights. It's all the Anti-Viruses' fault, for the disappearance of Osial. Faced with the repurcussions, they were held inside the HQ, always supervised. Never allowed to freely roam the Interface without one of higher rank watching them. Unknowingly during this time (cycle 247), Osial is recovered by some Anti-Viruses, but loses all memory of their life as a Virus.

It somewhat changed in cycle 248, where their efforts were partially recognized by the force. Despite the damaged core fact, they were actually of great help, and were promoted to Veteran at the age of 12 cycles. Of course, they were still held inside HQ during off time, unable to do anything but think. Even some of their coding privileges were removed. All their training must've been done under the watchful eye of Ren or Para, or even Kheim (basically anyone very responsible). Alyin did progress in their technique due to all of their time spent training, but it waned in the face of their wanted skill level. I must be able to avenge Osial. They never deserved this.

More and more battles have passed, their kill (60+) and core damage (15+) count ramping up. At the start of the new cycle 249, they were officially promoted to Proxy for their work. It was to tell them to behave a bit more, as well as give them something for their efforts, but they didn't behave much, if at all after receiving it. In fact, the first battle after they received it, they had deleted their first Virtual from existence. As such, their new rank was immediately taken away, as well as all their freedom and coding privileges.

A lot more things happened, becoming Proxy and off during the cycle. There were very many mixed thoughts from Viruses spanning many Divisions, many thinking they were a repeat of Ren. Of course, as Alyin is promoted to Proxy for the sixth time, Yin actually realized it was just a repeat of Ren and sent out an order that Alyin's Proxy rank can no longer be removed. This occured early in the 250th cycle, before the Virus HQ Incursion. More incidents about it sprang up, but it was quickly fanned out. ...

We arrive at present time, cycle 250. The Anti-Viruses have raided the Virus HQ, and everything, everywhere, is compromised. However, as Alyin defeats their first few foes, they encounter an enemy they will never forget.

Why couldn't you delete them? The chance was right there. They reminded me of someone. And it's Osial? Or maybe Kheim? Valtro? Yes. Osial. But they are not Osial. They really reminded me of them. I couldn't.. bear to delete them. It's another excuse, "Alyin". It feels like I'll be torn apart if I did delete them. I would like to remind you that Osial is gone. You will never see "Osial" again. They are not "Osial". That's a lot for you to say, "Alyin". Really trying to persuade me again? Of course not, "Alyin". You know full well that I am just trying to help you. ...I just feel like, I could be friends with them. Friends on the opposing force is impossible in this world. I know others who- You'll only get backstabbed. Anti-Viruses can never be trusted. But- I thought you remembered the "Osial" incident. Did you not learn there? You can never be friends with the enemy. Now sleep, "Alyin".

MISC

COMBAT

Their weapon is a hybrid type weapon that can switch freely between light melee and heavy melee (both forms are drawn in reference). They specialize in close combat fighting using their weapon's Blade form or Scythe form, however does decently well in longer distance due to their weapon's longer-than-average range. They tend to rush straight into combat with their teammates providing long range support or targeting long range enemies, prefering fighting in clean, open areas without much room for hiding because that makes their job much easier.

Their strikes are normally those that tend to do as much damage to the Virtual as possible, which is where damaging the cores of Anti-Viruses came in. Every ally knows to quickly back away and support them from far; there have been a few cases where an ally accidently got hit. They also enjoy surprising the enemy with quickly switching forms of their weapon.

Strengths
They have strong attacks and their weapon switching forms midway in the fight can be detrimental if you're not prepared for it. As they have good speed too, if you're trying to flee, they can catch up to you pretty quickly, using their weapon's longer reach to their advantage. If the fight is a bit long, they can and will remember some of your most prominent techniques and attempt to counter them effectively.

Weaknesses
Struggles greatly with rough terrain with places for Anti-Viruses' to hide in, as well as long range. While they are quite adaptable, in many situations they require support to cover their backs from those who like to snipe and use long range weapons. Fighting solo against a group of 3 or more is also a terrible spot to be in; their sword is accustomed to single-target. Usually, if the terrain and enemies are unfavorable they will retreat.

TRIVIA

  • Tried to pick up some hobbies whilst being an initiate and combatant but failed due to probation. As a Proxy, while they aren't limited like that anymore, they still struggled with picking one up and their only passion currently is combat.
  • Has not died a single time in combat yet; they're just too good (debatable) as well as being younger than many Virtuals in combat currently.
  • Their mother is still alive, but their father was deleted in combat. Though they've mostly seperated from them, they still managed to feel sad.
  • Named Alyin because of their high corruption level. Their parents thought that it meant that they were closer to Yin than others, which is why 'Yin' is included in the name.
  • Sometimes can delete Virtuals from existance, but it's normally involuntary as though they do hit the cores often, it's usually with the intention of damaging it instead of actualy deleting. But maybe it'll happen in the future?
  • ...There was a virtual they wanted to bond with in the future. Then, they disappeared off the face of the earth. To this day, Alyin still remains in pursuit of their 'lover', but they don't know, that their 'lover' opposes their force now...
  • Found a new hobby: fishing
  • Hair tied up in ponytail is regular. Hair untied is usually alter ego, but can also just be an alternate hair style for a specific outfit. No one can tell the difference between them and their alter.
  • Their birthday is (in month/day format), 9/11.
  • They canonically know how to play the flute.
