Performer by day, crook by night, and worshipper althroughout.

Dawn is a pacifistic cleric at heart, though the circumstances in which she finds herself in often leads her to take the wayward path in life. Her unshakable faith is what keeps her going, for better or for worse, and has shaped much of her choices in life.

It's only recently that Dawn has been struck with the realization that there should be more to life, but her faith is too ingrained in her to forsake it.

Dawn's gig as a performer lends to a lot of her attributes, though it also leaves her incredibly weak physically. She makes up for it the best she can in magic.

personality
Dawn is a rather spineless tiefling, often going along with what others do or expect rather than proposing her own solutions. Her only strengths lie in her religious devotion and her unwillingness to break her morals. Though it's a bit unclear as to what she's after; she floats around and will offer help to the less fortunate, but won't hesitate to take advantage of those beneath her if she's desperate. She can only hope that her daily repentance is enough to wash away her sins.

stage persona
When taking the stage, Dawn plays the character of Daybreak, a charismatic performer with a prowess for preaching. Her overly pompous demeanor draws attention and she capitalizes on this, doing whatever she can to draw the eyes of an audience. Her more egregious claim is being blessed by the sun, but she finds ways to tie this premise into her acts.

Some of the Daybreak persona bleeds into her everyday life as Dawn. This is most evident in her flowery language, but it trickles into other parts.

Combat isn't Dawn's strongsuit and she'll avoid a physical confrontation at all costs. She keeps her distance when there's no other choice, using long-ranged spells and weapons to avoid her hands from getting too dirty. She has a focus on healing and buffs/debuffing due to her pacifistic morals.

Dawn is a follower Sitris, the Goddess of the Sun. Her patron precides over judgment and is said to help all life flourish, thus looking at all beings through a lens as though all are equal. Dawn clings to this faith strongly, and has taken an oath to not claim a life in the name of Sitris.

Dawn's religion is homebrewed and is still a work in progress.

WIP STORY

STORY PREMISE
Was saved from tragedy that struck her village. The clergy from a neighboring town was investigating this disaster to ensure they didn't need to call upon outside forces to help defend their own town. Out of the small population, Rohiri was one of the sole survivors. The clergy took her in, renaming her to Dawn and molding her into one of their own. Though a tiefling, they felt that it'd push the message of Sitris' fair judgment, and Dawn could be a good mouthpiece to get worshippers outside of humans.

Dawn has no ill-will towards the clergy as she feels indebt to them. However, as she ages and starts to gain more independence, she starts to go down a crooked path at night. It leaves her at odds with herself, wondering if what she does is from her "past life" before she was taken in by the clergy. To try and repent for this, she doubles down on her worship and dips her toe into preaching, finding some solace in putting on an act of someone who she isn't: the confident smooth-talking Daybreak. Her performance leads her to getting the tattoo around her left eye as an act of devotion and to further her "blessed by the sun" gimmick.

However, this isn't enough. Dawn still feels like there's something wrong with her and starts to try and reflect on herself. It leads her to realizing that she doesn't know what she desires. With this, she assumes she must repent for her spinelessness and the shame it'd bring upon the clergy and Sitris, and decides to embark on a journey to figure out who and what she is.

Dawn's story will be written properly soon. This is just a summary/idea of what her whole deal is before I really bang it out and refine the details. When I expand her background, I want to answer questions like why she turned to crime, what age she was taken in by the clergy, and a bit more on her feeling out of place.

CLERGY OF SITRIS | Dawn has a relatively positive attitude towards the clergy that had rescued her as a child. Not only does she feel in debt to them, she sees them as a family of sorts, confiding in them and seeing them as her loved ones.

The meaning behind the name Dawn is to inspire hope, that even after the darkest hour, the sun will rise again.

  • Dawn's on-stage performances focus on using light magic to tell a story that probes the audience. She tries to be subtle about the connections to Sitris, as an overt sermon is likely to deter people.
  • She struggles with imposter syndrome as her persona bleeds into her everyday life. It makes her feel like she's compensating for what she lacks at her core.
  • I was pushed to make Dawn more of a girlfailure from my first campaign with her.
