Profile

Shara Von is a Selkie in young adulthood. Her mother spent a good portion of her childhood teaching her how to steal and pickpocket, proudly reinforcing the stereotype that Selkies are unrepentant bandits. Shara wasn't aware that stereotype was a thing, because it was impossible for her to leave her sheltered village in the miasma, and didn't become aware of it until her first voyage out gathering myrrh. Once she did, she vowed to go out of her way to try and prove that it doesn't apply to her, intending to make up for it. This occasionally brings her into conflict with her mother, who regularly recommends stealing everything that isn't nailed down.

Shara comes off as a cool Lone Wolf type. At the request of children in town, sometimes she will show off her cool flips and kicks, and take trick shots with her bow and arrow, which is always met with cheers and applause. The kids adore her, and the ones who would go into adventurer training directly credit her for inspiring them. For the most part, she likes them too, though she dislikes it when they get clingy to her. Generally she keeps to herself, crafting arrows in her hut, or practicing with a knife she found, and she really only leaves to purchase or go hunting for food in the nearby woods.

She is the only adventurer left in her village who is still able to go out hunting for myrrh. A couple previous adventurers passed away from old age, a couple more were forced to retire from injuries after a monster ambush, and the few child trainees that actually live in town aren't old enough to join her yet. Until they grow up a bit more, it's just Shara and her Moogle companion, Mog. She doesn't mind being alone, because that way she is guaranteed to know where the Crystal Chalice is specifically at all times. She has an unusual sensitivity to the miasma coating the world in poison, something Mog is aware of, and it's easier for her to plan things out if there's no one else to take into account. (Of course long-term exposure to the miasma is bad for everyone, but it always seemed to hit Shara far harder than the others she had in the caravan.)

The only one she acknowledges as a truly close friend is a socially anxious young Yuke named Mespyrian, nicknamed Messie. Shara thinks Mespyrian is female, though has no real way of telling, and Messie has never clarified. Messie is one of the village's trainees, guessed to be the oldest of the children there, and Shara has promised to save her a spot next time the caravan sets out.

While she's depicted with a bow here, she does have enough sword proficiency to defend herself in melee combat.
