Oleander

calmed by the lack of conflict in his life, oleander is an unbothered man who prefers to spend his time alone. it's not that he hates people entirely, but rather, he's used to being alone. he's okay and at peace with himself, connection to others is something he doesn't need, but occasionally enjoys. he tends to the large garden surrounding his home, as it's his favorite hobby. when he isn't gardening, he's reading. oleander swore he'd read every book in the large library his father had built, and he's still determined to fufil that goal. that way, he'll feel closer to his father, even if he's hardly spoke to him.

he has an overwhelming amount of sympathy for humans, though he's aware of the terrors they've enacted on mutants. oleander can't help it, he was protected by his mother and raised by servents alongside her who dedicated themselves to shielding him from the law, how could he not empathize with them? there's been times where it's made him unpopular with a select few mutants who're set on matching human's violence with more violence, however, some respect him for the pacifist stance.

CHILDHOOD

born to a rich family who's been employed by the government for decades, oleander's father was often away across the vast city for business purposes, rarely returning home. oleander's mother was left to a large house with servants, who became her close friends over the years. it was no surprise that when she gave birth to a son who bore a pair of moth wings along his back, they volunteered to keep it hidden from everyone, as she was terrified of what'd happen to her son. for the first few years of oleander's life, he didn't catch a single glimpse of his father, until he was six. the reaction wasn't amazing, but his dad looked past it in order to keep oleander's mother happy.

PAST

once he was a teenageer, oleander began sneaking out of his home, curious about the outside world. he realized soon he would never be regarded in the same positive manner he was by the humans around his house and his mother. oleander felt it was unfair, why should he be cursed to live this way, when it wasn't his fault he was born with something he didn't ask for? regardless, he had a new-found sense of respect for the risks his mother took, and began to despise his father for not only borderline abandoning his family, but for working for an organization that actively harmed mutants just like him. when his father did return home, oleander had occasional arguments with him due to the built-up tension that took hold from the distance and lack of communication.

PRESENT

now, afraid of what could become of him, oleander chooses to stay within his home, isolated from the world. there's a large part of him which still yearns to explore the wonders of it all, only able to really observe the phenomenons through books and media. he still vouches for mutants, using the importance of his family to spread his voice and secretly houses stray mutants who've previously run from their occupations. due to the largeness of his home, oleander has no problem providing a warm meal and bed to those in need.
