They're called Gyrites , though they're often called Snips. Their diet primarily consists of fish, and occasionally sea birds. They're a large animal, with lengths going from 10-17 ft, but relatively docile. They live in groups of around 3-6 individuals, called pods, normally consisting of a male and group of females.
They lack vocal cords, but produce a sharp clacking sound by clicking their scissor like beaks. They do this to attract mates and to warn rivaling groups of their territory.
They're slow on land , crawling on the six claw like legs near their throats, but they're very hydrodynamic creatures that cut through water with ease.
They lay eggs coated in a transparent membrane that develop into grubs after a while. Most grubs don't make it to adult hood, being easy food for other animals. Those that do often join their mother's pod, or start their own.
