Fern was born several thousands of years ago, but only "alive" for a couple hundred years. This is because when vampires (even half-vampires, like Fern) are born, they lie dormant until they are given blood for the first time.

His mother is the vampire queen, making him sort of like a prince. Although his father's origins are a mystery to him, it never bothered him in the slightest. He has a younger half-sister who he loves dearly. Even after the events of their mother's death, he always sought to cheer her up and be there for her whenever she felt overwhelmed.

He was raised by other full blooded vampires and has had very little positive interactions with other elves. Fern mostly is absorbed in creating and reading works of fiction. Perhaps it is a form of escapism for never truly fitting in with his pure blooded vampiric family.
