MireClan had fallen into a time of prosperity, after the reign of Calamitystar. With Littlestar to lead them, the clan found themselves in peaceful times. With this peace, Opalfur decided that she would like to raise a family with her mates, Snakegaze and Smokewatcher. Thus, Howlitekit and Carneliankit were born into an unconventional dynamic - one uncommon in the clans. The pair were to be raised by their mother and two fathers, forever finding themselves the subject of three parents’ adoration. Howlitekit was the first kitten to be born - a carbon copy of his mother in looks and manner. Having been born during the cold season, he was kept snuggled close to his with his littermate and to his three parents. Most of all, he was lavished under the bottomless love of his mother. Opalfur, Snakegaze and Smokewatcher all came from different backgrounds and stories of their past lives often filled the nursery with tales of great adventure. From these stories, Howlitekit’s curiosity for the world only grew.

Shortly after his apprentice ceremony, Howlitepaw fell ill. This sickness took such a toll on the apprentice that he was confined him to the medicine den and his training was postponed for several moons. While his mother worried tirelessly for him, he was worried that he was falling behind compared to the other apprentices, in particular Carnelianpaw. During this time, Howlitepaw would begin to dream of faraway places and the adventures that awaited him there. He knew that there was a world outside of the clans and he wanted to experience it but he knew that his parents would never let him leave. Once fully recovered from his sickness, Howlitepaw left camp, venturing into the dead of night. He travelled deep into MireClan territory, until he could no longer smell the scent of his clanmates and knew that he was free.

For many moons, the young tom explored the wilds, unaware that his fathers searched for him in vain. In this time, Howlite wandered the vast expanses of Olympia, trying his best not to trespass upon clan territory. For several moons, he wandered amongst those of the twoleg land but, never intending to settle in a twoleg nest, he never stayed. The neutral land nestled amongst the clans became Howlite’s home for a while, but he never remained in one place for long. He kept to himself but sought knowledge on the land and its herbs from anyone who would share their know-how. Life as a loner wasn’t easy but Howlite managed with his natural-born sense and the stories that his parents had shared with him. He remembered the tales that Snakegaze and Opalfur had shared about their lives as a loner and a kittypet, respectively, and the young tom used that to his advantage.
