Rikiho Kinaki (木泣 力穂・きなき りきほ・Kinaki Rikiho), more often known as Riki, is the younger daughter of the Pro Hero Machinator, Ikuma Kinaki, and his wife Āwhina Rutherford. She currently attends Sapporo Konkorudo Middle School, serving as a class representative on the student council, and is training to take the entrance exams to the UA and Shiketsu Hero Courses.

Her ultimate goal is to one day work as a Pro Hero and take over her father's agency. She is attempting to convince her older sister, Karamea, to join the agency as a support tech specialist, but Karamea has far bigger ambitions to attend to first.

APPEARANCE

Riki is a short young girl, with the thin limbs and knobbly elbows of a teenager still only half-grown. She has a slight, narrow frame, like her father and older sister. At 157cm (5'2"), she is currently the shortest in her family, although the gap may close in the coming years as she still has some growing to do. She is an active player of contact sports and as a result generally sports a collection of bruises in various stages of fading.

Riki has light brown skin with a golden undertone, taking after the paternal side of her family. She tans quickly in summer, developing subtle freckles across her cheeks and the bridge of her nose. Her eyes are dark brown, large and round, with monolids and naturally arched brows. She smiles often and widely. Her hair is a dark brown, near-black color, with a streak of paler grey growing from her upper right temple. This streak is a Kinaki trait; her father, sister, aunt and grandmother all have it to varying degrees. She wears her hair in a half-ponytail, with the rest flying loose in the wind.

▮▮▮ WARDROBE

Her tastes in clothing are inspired by Korean street fashion, eclectic, and often expensive. She prefers skirts and dresses over leggings, never longer than knee-length, and has an enormous collection of patterned socks and stockings in a kaleidoscope of different colors. Crop tops and heavy jackets are her favourite combo. Her wardrobe is otherwise dominated by blues and browns with a few off-white accents.

Her school uniform is a knee-length black dress with A-line pleated skirt and a sailor neckline, which comes in long-sleeved winter and short-sleeved summer versions. The collar and cuffs are trimmed in baby blue, and the tie is white with a blue chevron at the tip. Riki can usually be seen with a thick woollen scarf in winter, and often a bulky puffer jacket over the top.

A happy-go-lucky girl who loves to compete and especially loves to win, Riki is the polar opposite of her sister in many ways. She is a charismatic, emotional sort who prefers to act on instinct rather than plot her steps beforehand. This often makes her a lot of fun to hang out with, but on other occasions can land her (and anyone who went along with her) in hot water. She is confident, and very social, drawing energy from interpersonal interactions and enjoying communicating with new people.

Riki is fierce in competition, and has never suffered failure well despite her parents' attempts to teach her forbearance. She is always first to volunteer for a challenge or a new experience, and does not shy away from messy consequences as long as she's reasonably sure of achieving what she came for. She can be a sore loser, though she's slowly getting better about it.

She is popular at school, with a large and ever-expanding circle of friends. Part of her popularity is undoubtedly due to her Hero father, but her own charisma and enthusiasm is the bigger part. She is seldom judgemental ━ her parents raised her with a solid understanding of her own relative privilege and the role of sheer luck in determining financial and social status. Her lack of discernment with regards to the people she chooses to spend time with is usually a positive trait, but can sometimes reflect badly on her: she got into trouble last year for hanging out with a pair of girls who were bullying first-years.

Riki's attention span is short at the best of times. Her ability to sit and focus on one topic is limited; she does best when she's allowed to hop around multiple topics at the same time, or to doodle things in her workbook while she listens. Her highest grades come from physical aducation and art classes, her lowest from history. Her parents had her assessed for ADHD as a kid, but she was one point short of a primarily-hyperactive diagnosis at the time. Her mother suspects it might be worth having her re-assessed before she gets into high school.

⸻Cognitive Empathy
Riki has a well-developed sense of emotional empathy; she can mirror the feelings of the people around her, often entirely by accident. When she sits down and thinks about it, she can often extend this into cognitive empathy, allowing her a deeper understanding of other people's thoughts, emotional reactions, and in general why they do the things they do. This is the major factor in her popularity and charisma; people tend to feel genuinely seen and understood by her.

QUOTES

QUIRK: Perpetual Motion Machine

》》》Perpetual Motion Machine comes to Riki directly from her father, Ikuma, without any identified mutations. It first manifested when she was three, allowing her to make toy cars move about without physically touching them, and over time training has resulted in her having the power to move even large vehicles such as trucks by herself. This is following much the same trajectory as her father's Quirk development took. Ikuma has trained her to control her Quirk since it first appeared, and while he took great pains to impress upon Riki that she could choose any path in life she wished to follow, she has set her heart on becoming a Hero just like him.

Her range of activation is currently a roughly 11m radius around her body; beyond that, machines remain inert. Her range for controlling previously-activated machines stretches out to a 1.5km radius, though like Ikuma she needs to be able to see what she's doing with each machine to do anything useful with it. She can maintain activation of her machines at a background level for about thirty minutes before getting distracted, but can maintain usage at low or repetitive levels for several hours. The larger the machine, the more energy (and focus) it takes to drive.

Like Ikuma, Riki's source of energy is as yet unidentified. Exhausting her Quirk does not exhaust her physical energy; and vice versa, she can still use her Quirk even when worn out from a long day of rugby practice. She doesn't appear to have any physical symptoms of extended Quirk use, right up until the point where it tips into overuse. Riki often finds it hard to tell when she's approaching that point, and it isn't unusual for her to only recognise it in hindsight because she's having too much fun zooming things around. (However, this does seem to be rapidly pushing out her limits; it took Ikuma nearly twenty years to reach the level she's at.)

Riki has a patch of steel-grey hair on her right temple and hairline, reaching up to the top of her forehead and contrasting against her natural warm dark brown. This comes to her from Ikuma, from his mother Kureha, and ultimately from her great-grandfather, the first in the bloodline to manifest the machine-Quirk.

▮▮▮ ADVANTAGES

• Riki's ability to activate machines is most obvious with vehicles, but she also has a limited ability to work with non-vehicle systems such as wifi routers, security cameras, and refrigerators. Her phones never run out of battery power.

• Using her Quirk does not damage the machine she uses it on, unless she does something damaging with it. (Which is not out of the realm of possibility; she crashes things a lot.)

▮▮▮ DISADVANTAGES

• Mild overuse makes her incredibly distractable and unable to focus on tasks for longer than a minute or so. (Riki frequently has trouble recognising this state, because she's distractible at the best of times.) More severe overuse symptoms include dizziness, tremors, and persistent nausea.

• The capabilities of her machines are limited to what they were constructed with. If Riki wants her drones to do something out of the ordinary, she has to mod them the old-fashioned way.

▮▮▮ OVERALL ABILITIES

⸻Enhanced Envirospatial Sense
Riki's remote-controlled machines give her a massively-extended envirospatial sense, allowing her to instinctively sense the shape of the world around her - and around her machines. This is immensely helpful: she can build up a mental map of topography and obstacles that allow her to maneuver her drones rapidly and accurately. She needs a visual feed in order to help her build up this map, but once it's emplaced she can visualize the environment as if she were there herself.

Riki's extensive sports commitments have given her a tolerance for extended high-level activity that few of her classmates can match. She has no problems running around a rugby field for an hour, and tends to play in the more active positions.

Riki is an avid builder and modifier of racing drones, like her father and sister. She has a fleet of seven RC quadcopters, modified for various tasks, which she can keep aloft using her Quirk for hours at a time. All seven are equipped with multiple cameras, allowing her to watch from a distance via wireless video feed.

TRIVIA

➥ Riki's full given name. Rikiho, is spelled with the kanji 'strength/power' (力 riki) and 'wavecrest' (穂 ho). She prefers the shortened form immensely, and her full name is consequently only ever used when she's done something she really shouldn't have.

• Her family name is written wih the kanji 'tree' (木 ki) and 'to weep' (泣く na.ku).

➥ Like Karamea, she was brought up in a multilingual household, speaking Japanese, English, Ainu-itak, and a little bit of Te Reo Māori. She is most comfortable speaking Japanese and Ainu; her English is less confident, although still fluent.

• She is taking Korean classes at school, but is still very much a beginner.

➥ She is one of the senior members of Āwhina's kapa haka club, having been a regular attendee since she was a baby. Her favourite parts are waiata-a-ringa and poi, but she loves it all in general.

• The club, Te Kapa Haka o Haporo, recently attended Te Matatini Kapa Haka Festival, that year in Gisborne, with members from all over northern Japan. They didn't place very well, but Riki is extremely enthusiastic about doing better next time.

➥ She plays several sports, albeit casually due to her focus on Hero-track activities. Athletics are her strong suit.

• Her favourite sport is rugby union. She's a very enthusiastic tackler and loves to get into scrums despite her small size.

➥ Like Karamea, Riki has Peripheral Hypermobility Syndrome, hypermobility of the hands and feet. In Riki's case this is largely benign; she's just a very bendy child.
