Demetrius

DEMETRIUS

Demetrius was born to a poor family in the middledark city of Yathchhol, and grew up knowing the struggles of the underdark.
Demetrius only knew his mother for a very short period of his life, the first 10 years. He cannot remember her face well, but he remembers her being a tiefling, his father a drow.
His father was cruel and authoritarian, running their home like a well-oiled machine, he remembers him being kinder when his mother was around.
 He kept to himself mostly, and for many decades he had few friends to speak of.
At age 72 he met a noble boy, also a drow, who he became smitten with quite quickly. His feelings were reciprocated, and for a brief period he may have been considered a consort.
However, the noble's mother disapproved of their relationship, and ordered that Demetrius be killed.
Demetrius fled the underdark, barely escaping with his life, emerging on the surface near Hellgate Keep. There Demetrius began to search for other life.
His first encounter with other intelligent life left him bloodied and beaten within an inch of his life, being slashed across the face with an axe. He still carries this scar.
After that encounter he learned that hiding in the shadows and stealing in the night was his best option.
Believing it was unsafe for him to live in society he lived in nature, realizing he had an aptitude for tending to plants and injured creatures.
For almost a century he lived in partial solitude, speaking only briefly with other intelligent creatures, but mostly with the beasts he tended to while roaming the wooded lands of Faerun.
He chalks his struggles with conversation and understanding social cues to this long-period of minimal contact and conversation, however, this has been an issue his entire life.
