ABOUT

A rose without thorns is a sorry sight indeed!

Orial is a young lord of Airtafae, mercantile house dealing in enchanted cloth for generations in the guilded capital of Amn - in the golden city Athkatla rift with immoral notiriety and steeped in corruption. Spoiled and narcissitic with family name and wealth behind each frivolous action, his true love lies in luxuries - fine cloth, fine drink, fine company draped in sparkling jewlery and their own show of affluence. Truth be told, he is immensly vain with a great devotion to his appearance - especially how he is seen by others.

Yet the position he holds beneath his half-sister, Cesc, successor in line take over both name and property, and his failing in the family 'arts' make much of this boastful arrogance something often put upon. A pretentious pretense to hide self-doubt, lacking of confidence and internal anxiety, though these rarely reach the surface.

Spirited and outgoing, Orial takes the family practice of placing enchantments upon fine clothing not altogether serious - not apt at the art himself even after extensive education. Having been trained in the magic for years under dutiful tutage but with no true talent, Orial drifted towards other interests- cultivating plants, learning & spending coin on fine arts, mingling in more social events where a flaunt of wealth garners the interest of other nobles and he can hold the megar position up as something of import. He is quite intelligent, though clueless when it comes to things which one might not find outside a book or the social circle he has been groomed for - especially inter-personal relations.

History

Born out of a whirlwind romance on the cust of his Father's arranged marriage, Orial was never to be the one who inherited the family name despite order of birth. The marriage, binding two high houses and their wealth together meant the produced heir of both - a sister, less than a year younger than he - would always be the one to hold this role.

Seen as a failure in the art of enchantment, Orial drifted to thigns he thought might gain him attention and reassurance - song, dance, the physical attention of others (whether bought or earned). His skill lay in things more natural than enchantment - with the horses or hounds or his greenhouse filled with rare plants. These were never things seen as 'worthwhile' in the eyes of the family, though. They were wasteful hobbies that would earn nothing and often cost much.

Whispers among nobles turned to plotting. Plotting turned towards Lord Airtafae. There was an attempt upon the man's life. Poison made its way into Orial's Father's cup - a deadly mix that was unintended for the eldest son, but drank nonetheless.

Instead of death, a spark in him - bloodlines from a Mother he didn't know - curled tight around the man, brought out murmur of a connection to the Fey. Like a siren call, the change that drew him in was one steeped in vines and in thorns and in wild nature he'd found solace teasing and toying with as 'hobby'.

Already lacking skill in the family magicks, Orial was suddenly barely able to preform most basic of enchantments - flare of new blood disrupting what he'd spent years trying and failing to master. The leap and burst of connection to the feywild, things he barely understood, had him losing control with even his shape. Sliding in and out of a forms human - vistage often was that of a massive stag, either completely or partially, appearance altering like glossimer thread rippling over his skin, changing suddenly and against his will.

Tf9nUYP.png

Orial fled south. That siren call of 'forest' drew him in, drew him away from golden city - rejection from an escort he had spent near a year wooing with the coin in his purse only spurring this along. He learned the art now plauging him like a disease wracking form in ways uncontrollable and demanding. He learned from a master who never showed his face, a master who wore the shape of many different creatures and yet would never shed them nor speak. And while he was away, a new whisper and plot ate away at family and at name.

Little more than imprisonment awaited him upon returning - captured and questioned on things Cesc had done, on the death of family and in turn the assassination of contesting nobles. A slave, trained retainer and personal aid to this sister who was nowhere to be found broke him out of stockades, freed him only for them to run Southward again...a poor turn for the man who had simply wanted to sleep in his own bed, drape himself in his own clothes, take place back up in the ranks of nobles with purse full of coin and little care in his head.

Orial deals with a lot of internalized anxiety and bipolar personality disorder. While he has always been rather histrionic - liking to be the center of attention and interest - the spark of fey blood in him brought this to the surface fully. He is often one to force his way into the spotlight or hyperbolize situations when speaking about them. The man is demanding and ultimately seeks out assurance from those around him.

Relationships

vMhkgD0.jpg?1 Born to two Nobles in the city of , he was the child born out of wedlock to a self-made woman & a man already promised to another. He was born, though his father chose to marry to fulfil the binding of two houses. Orial was given to be raised by his father when barely a year old.
Orial knows of his mother, though has done little more than exchange a few sheets of letters over the years. His father cares deeply for the boy, though would never allow him to inherit nor does he treat him with the same amount of attention as his daughter.

Sister; House Successor

wc4wXcv.png Younger sister, born very shortly after Orial, & inheritor of his families mercantile company, expected to lead the longtime textile company whenever their parents choose to pass this down to her. Skilled in enchantment, she was trained in this art, excelling from a young age far beyond anything Orial could manage. He resents her, though would never openly question her position.
With recent events, Cesc has gone missing...no word of either where she is nor why. Vanishing in the aftermath of a violent altercation in the Markets resulting in injury and sudden death of her parents, as well as a collection of highborn nobles.

House Retainer & Slave

c1rNVzK.png Personal Servant & Knight owned by his sister, she is bound to his house. Orial laments not being gifted his own retainer - often trying to order the girl around for menial tasks. He would beg as a child to be gifted his own servant - but simply had to make due with those owned & bound to the family.
She has aided him greatly over the years, whether because ordered to or not. While there may not be any emotional attachment between the two, Orial trusts the woman with his life like few others.
