While they are undoubtably a menace to society, Knife is quite good with planning routes, calculating finances, and predicting which ancestor and traders will be showing up next. They have a huge collection of journals, notebooks, and spreadsheets dedicated to keeping logs so they can always be prepared for any situation that arrises (and specifically any trader who needs candles as a trade for clothes). Léo and Knife became friends after he asked what they were doing sitting in the town square with piles of notes and Knife took this opportunity to unload all of the information on why they think that the Crab Whisperer will be here soon and how many candles he would need if he were interested in any of her wares. Léo was already impressed with the amount of information and then doublely impressed when the Crab Whisperer was in town the next day.

Knife Kid doesn't have to run Eden every week but... if Léo is going then why wouldn't Knife go too? Bonus is that there are some ancestors and traders who are looking out for the rare Eden candles so having a few on hand is never a bad thing!
