Tanzanite forced a smile at herself in the mirror as she brushed her hair. She was preparing for the yearly Halloween Feast that her family held in their manor, although, this year would be different. Her hand paused as she saw the light glint off one of her purple, gooey horns. The forced smile turned back into the frown Tanzi had been wearing so often lately, as her free hand rose to the garnet necklace around her neck. Her mothers necklace. At least, it used to be.

Tanzi put the brush down with a sigh and stared at the garnet in her palm. Her mother had named her Tanzanite for her purple goo and because it was her favorite gemstone. Garnet, Tanzi's mother, always wore the necklace, as that was what she was named for.

Taking a deep breath, Tanzi stood from her vanity, she had put off put of checking the decorations downstairs too long. The feast was something Tanzi and her mother had loved to host together. This was the first time, the first event even, that Tanzi would be present at since her mothers passing earlier in the year. Tanzi knew her mother wouldn't have wanted her to miss the Halloween Feast, let alone any of the other gatherings those in her social circle hosted. She just couldn't bring herself to do anything until now.

As Tanzi was going to leave her room, she stopped by her dresser and picked up the pocket watch lying atop it. It had been given to her by her father the day she was born. Ensuring it was properly fastened to her belt, Tanzi placed one hand on her necklace again. She knew the pocket watch had always made her father feel close, and now she had her mothers necklace. A slight smile formed as she remembered the warmth of her parents love. Knowing they would want her to be happy, Tanzi went downstairs to finish setting up feeling a little lighter.
